Iberdrola España brings collective self-consumption to 360 households in Arjonilla, Torredonjimeno and Jaén

The three new solar communities comprise 394 panels with an installed capacity of more than 181 kWp.

Iberdrola España continues to expand collective self-consumption in the province of Jaén with three new solar communities located in Arjonilla, Torredonjimeno and the provincial capital. The facilities will enable 360 households in the surrounding area to benefit from renewable energy without needing to install their own solar panels or make any investment, while saving on their electricity bills.

Together, the three solar communities have an installed capacity of 181.24 kWp, with 394 photovoltaic panels and annual generation of 260 MWh, which will prevent the emission of more than 53 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

With this self-consumption model, any customer located within five kilometres of the installation can join and consume locally generated green energy without needing solar panels installed at their own home and without making any investment, as the company handles the entire process.

The largest installation in terms of capacity is located in Arjonilla, where 160 solar panels have been installed, providing a total capacity of 73.6 kWp and enabling 150 households to join the collective self-consumption scheme. In Torredonjimeno, the solar community has 112 panels, a capacity of 51.52 kWp and the ability to benefit 100 households.

The third installation is located in the city of Jaén and comprises 122 solar panels, with a total capacity of 56.12 kWp. Thanks to this project, a further 110 households will be able to participate in the collective self-consumption scheme.

With these new projects, Iberdrola España now has more than 100 active solar communities in Andalusia, in line with its strategy of bringing renewable energy closer to citizens.

More than 1,000 solar communities in Spain

Across the country, Iberdrola España has now surpassed the milestone of 1,000 solar communities, providing more than 100,000 households with access to self-consumption. The company pioneered self-consumption solutions for its customers in 2015 and, in 2019, launched the solar community model in response to the fact that more than two-thirds of the population live in multi-storey buildings.

This system enables residents living near an installation to access locally generated renewable energy. Iberdrola España is thus continuing to strengthen its commitment to collective self-consumption as a solution focused on the end customer, driving the energy transition locally and bringing the benefits of renewable energy closer to citizens.
