Iberdrola España has been named Energy Storage Promoter of the Year at the RENMAD 2026 Awards

Iberdrola España has been recognised in Seville with the Energy Storage Developer of the Year Award at the RENMAD 2026 Awards, an accolade that highlights the company's role in developing solutions related to energy storage.

Patricia Del Moral, Head of Batteries and Large-Scale Renewables for Industry, and Luis Martín Ercilla, Regional Manager for Iberdrola Renovables in Andalusia, collected the award at a ceremony also attended by Félix Hernando Matellano, Head of New Developments for Pumped Storage Projects. This award recognises companies or organisations that have led key projects or initiatives to promote energy storage, drive innovative solutions and better integrate renewable energy into the electricity system.

In this field Iberdrola España is promoting efficient energy storage as one of the key drivers for the electrification and decarbonisation of demand. The company is a leader in energy storage through hydroelectric and pumped-storage generation, with an installed capacity of 4.2 gigawatts in Spain and Portugal, and complements this capacity with the development of battery systems associated with renewable generation facilities, both in operation — Iberdrola España has been a pioneer in bringing Spain's largest batteries into operation — with pilot projects such as those developed in Abadiño, Urkilla, Campo Arañuelo III and Puertollano — as well as in development. This leadership is reinforced in its strategic planning, which includes an investment of €1.5 billion in storage under the 2025 to 2028 Strategic Plan.

Furthermore Iberdrola España is making progress in the deployment of large-scale battery storage facilities with the backing of IDAE grant schemes, notably the Andévalo project (Huelva). In parallel it is driving forward recent initiatives in hydro-pumped storage, such as those at Torrejón and Valdecañas on the River Tagus.

This leadership is reinforced by the recent award to Iberdrola España of grants from the ERDF programme for energy storage projects, covering both batteries and hydroelectric pumping.

Energy storage plays a fundamental role in the energy transition, facilitating greater integration of renewable energy and contributing to the efficiency and stability of the system.

The award ceremony took place during RENMAD Almacenamiento 2026, held in Seville, one of the sector's leading events in Spain, which brings together companies, institutions and experts to analyse the present and future of this technology. With this recognition Iberdrola España strengthens its position in the development of solutions aimed at moving towards a more sustainable energy model.
