Women Lab Bilbao is a professional region that connects more than 800 female executives in the Basque Country.

More than 200 female executives and senior managers from companies in the Basque Country gathered yesterday at Torre Iberdrola for a conference organised by Women Lab Bilbao in collaboration with Iberdrola España to address one of the greatest challenges facing the Basque business community: generational succession.

The event, the ninth in the collaboration between the two organisations, sold out in record time. It opened with a speech by Estíbaliz Goñi, Director of Processes and Technology at i-DE, a distributor for Iberdrola España, who highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer within an organisation with 125 years of history such as the Iberdrola Group.

The conference, entitled "Relevo Generacional: el elefante en la sala", was structured around two panel discussions with complementary approaches. The first, moderated by Maite Caballero (Bizkaia Talent), brought together Amaia Jugo, managing director of Bizkaia Talent; Marta Martínez, director of business transformation at CEBEK/Ekinbarri; and María López Negrete, president of CECOBI, to analyse why Basque companies do not plan for knowledge transfer despite knowing they need it.

The second panel featured Manuel Angulo, founder of Pastelería Don Manuel, and his daughters María and Nadia Angulo, who shared their experience of managing the handover within the company. Moderated by Marta Fernández, Secretary-General of CECOBI, the discussion covered the 40 year history of the family business.

Women Lab Bilbao is a professional community connecting more than 800 female executives and managers from over 600 companies in the Basque Country. The partnership with Iberdrola España, which began in March 2023, has resulted in nine events on topics such as intergenerational talent, digital transformation, sustainability and artificial intelligence, establishing itself as a leading player in the Basque professional landscape.

Support for these initiatives forms part of the Iberdrola Group's commitment to equal opportunities and professional development. This commitment is also reflected in its support for women's sport. Since 2016 the company has been the leading promoter of women's sport in Spain and now supports several dozen federations across more than a hundred competitions, many of which are known as the Iberdrola leagues.
