Iberdrola España promotes collective self-consumption in Jerez de la Frontera with two new solar communities

The installations will generate more than 320 MWh of clean energy annually and supply around 430 households in the city.

Iberdrola España's solar communities in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz

Iberdrola España is continuing to expand its solar community model in Jerez de la Frontera with the launch of two new solar communities, currently in the commercialisation phase. The initiative will enable residents to access locally generated 100% renewable energy without the need for upfront investment or their own rooftop space.

The new solar communities, located on Calle Sudáfrica and in the El Portal industrial estate, have a combined installed capacity of around 240 kWp and will comprise more than 440 solar panels. Together, they are expected to generate more than 320 MWh of clean energy annually, benefiting around 430 households in the city.

This collective self-consumption model facilitates access to renewable energy generated at nearby facilities, enabling users to reduce their electricity bills and move towards more efficient and sustainable energy consumption.

Across the province of Cádiz, Iberdrola España continues to expand its network of solar communities with projects in municipalities such as La Línea de la Concepción, Algeciras, Arcos de la Frontera and Espera. In total, these initiatives represent more than 500 kWp of installed capacity and are expected to generate over 740 MWh of renewable energy annually, bringing collective self-consumption to around 1,000 families across the province.

Each solar community is installed on existing rooftops, optimising infrastructure use and promoting a more efficient energy model. Thanks to this system, any resident or small business located within a short radius of the installation can join the self-consumption scheme without needing to install their own solar system.

These new initiatives form part of Iberdrola España’s strategy to promote electrification and self-consumption in Andalusia, where the company now has more than one hundred active solar communities.

More than 1,000 solar communities across Spain

Across Spain, Iberdrola España has now surpassed the milestone of 1,000 solar communities, facilitating access to self-consumption for more than 100,000 households. The company pioneered self-consumption solutions for its customers in 2015 and, in 2019, launched the solar community model in response to the fact that more than two-thirds of the population live in apartment buildings. This system enables any resident located within two kilometres of a facility to access locally generated 100% renewable energy.

Iberdrola España continues to strengthen its commitment to collective self-consumption as a customer-focused solution that drives the energy transition at a local level and brings the benefits of renewable energy closer to consumers.
