Iberdrola España has become the first multinational in Spain to certify a global process under the international ISO/IEC 42001 standard through AENOR, which endorses the responsible use and good governance of artificial intelligence. By obtaining this certification, Iberdrola España positions itself at the forefront of the corporate use of certified and ethical generative AI, reinforcing its commitment to technological innovation and the sustainable development of digital solutions.

The recognition was awarded to its Global Business Services (GBS) division for the development of GURIA, a tool based on generative AI designed to optimise internal administrative processes.

GURIA (GBS User Response Intelligent Assistant) automates the management of emails and tickets in more than 40 corporate mailboxes in different countries where the group operates. Its functions include automatic message classification, extraction of relevant information from attachments and the creation of automatic responses, both using templates and generative artificial intelligence models.

Applying this system has reduced processing times and alleviated teams’ operational burden, teams who can now focus on tasks with greater value add, such as data analysis or improving internal processes.
The ISO/IEC 42001 certification, recently published as a new global standard, recognises the correct implementation of AI management systems and assesses aspects such as transparency in the use of models, process traceability, data protection and responsible technology governance.

The GURIA project was implemented in accordance with the AI Governance Framework developed by IT, which also actively participated in this audit, paving the way for future cross-cutting certifications, in which we will continue to succeed like we did for GBS in this certification.
