INNOVATION IN SPAIN
Innovation as a tool to boost the energy transition in Spain
Innovation is at the core of the strategy of Iberdrola, the Group that controls Iberdrola España, and is key to all our activities. As the private energy company that allocates the most to R&D&I in the world, with more than €2,000 million invested in the last decade, we are committed to a new decarbonised, digitalised and sustainable model. At Iberdrola España, this commitment translates into a series of innovative projects designed to continue driving the country's energy transition.
With innovation at our core, we invest in the development of innovative and sustainable technologies, aligned with the fundamental vectors of the transformation of the energy sector: decarbonisation through the adoption of renewable energies, the promotion of smart grids and the electrification of transport, buildings and industry.

Open and decentralised innovation at Iberdrola
Iberdrola España applies an open and decentralised R&D&i management model. It works with technology suppliers, universities, foundations, technology centres, and industrial organisations through various programmes and chairs.
Several examples of this are Iberdrola España's Supplier Innovation Programme, which seeks to facilitate access to financing, create joint ventures with suppliers and encourage innovative purchasing from SMEs, and another is the INNVIERTE programme, through which Iberdrola España and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness will share best practices in innovative purchasing and co-investment opportunities.
