Today the Iberdrola Group's Innovation and Training Campus — of which Iberdrola España is a part — in San Agustín del Guadalix (Madrid) hosted the twelfth edition of the company's Digital Summit, an event organized by the IT department that over the years has established itself as a unique forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to digitalization and innovation.

At this event the company reaffirmed its commitment to invest €1.6 billion in R&D&I between 2025 and 2028 to drive electrification.

Through the Digital Summit the Iberdrola Group promotes a digital culture within the organization, raises the profile of its strategic projects and fosters the development of innovation skills among its professionals.

Under the slogan "EnergIA que transforma," this year's event focused on the decisive role of artificial intelligence as a driver of change in the energy sector and the economy as a whole. The event began with remarks by Pedro Azagra, CEO of the Iberdrola Group, who discussed how AI is transforming business and technology, including its contribution to cultural transformation, and highlighted the importance of ethically harnessing its potential to generate new opportunities for innovation.

The agenda for the Digital Summit 2026 combined strategic presentations with top-tier speakers from companies such as Microsoft, Google, IBM, ABB, Plain Concepts, Gestamp and BYD. Participants analyzed the large-scale deployment of AI, the strategic value of data and its impact on key areas such as cybersecurity, customer experience, robotics and quantum technologies.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore an experiential zone where the eight invited companies (AWS, NTT Data, Capgemini, EY, Salesforce, SAP, Minsait and Tecnalia) showcased various technological innovations.

The event also served to highlight the company's commitment to digitalization as a cross-cutting pillar of its strategy, reinforcing its dedication to integrating advanced solutions throughout the value chain and thereby accelerating the transition to a more efficient, sustainable and data-driven energy model.

The group already has more than 300 AI projects underway, focused on objectives such as growth, improved productivity, operational efficiency, service quality and system resilience.

This approach is supported by a comprehensive redesign of business processes, the development of internal talent, the promotion of technology that ensures evolution aligned with the highest standards of quality, safety and resilience as well as an active portfolio of robotics and applied artificial intelligence solutions.

Furthermore Iberdrola Group has strengthened its position as a leader in responsible AI, becoming the first energy group with an artificial intelligence system certified under the ISO 42001 standard, receiving international recognition — such as its inclusion among the leading global AI projects for sustainability by the IRCAI, an organization linked to UNESCO — and forming strategic alliances with technology partners such as AWS and Microsoft (with the development of the first corporate agent-based platforms).

All of this is part of an ongoing transformation that seeks to fully integrate artificial intelligence as an additional driver of growth, competitiveness and long-term value creation.
