Electricity distribution in Spain

In our aim to lead the transformation of distribution grids towards a more intelligent, reliable and secure infrastructure, i-DE, the Iberdrola Group's distribution company, is responsible for supplying electricity wherever it is needed, as well as maintaining the grids.

We have a customer base of more than 11 million customers and our electricity network extends over 10 autonomous communities and 25 provinces, covering a territory of 270,000 km2.

Power generation in Spain

In order to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen our commitment to the environment, at Iberdrola España we are committed to use renewable energies. Discover how we generate energy in Spain through solar energy, hydroelectric energy, wind energy and green hydrogen.

Hydroelectric power

At Iberdrola España, we consider hydroelectric power to be the key to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. With an installed capacity of more than 11,000 MW in more than 120 hydroelectric plants throughout Spain, we supply hydroelectric energy to close to 8 million homes.

Onshore wind energy

After two decades working with renewables, we are now the world leader in onshore wind energy. Our wind farms, spread throughout Spain, have a total installed capacity of more than 6,601 MW, a figure that allows us to supply electricity to more than 6 million homes.

Solar energy

Spain, at the forefront in terms of hours of sunshine, is positioned as one of the European countries with the greatest potential for harnessing solar resources. From the sunny fields of Andalusia to the northern regions, at Iberdrola España solar energy generation is one of our priorities.

Green hydrogen

Green hydrogen is emerging as a great alternative in terms of sustainable mobility. At Iberdrola España, we are leading its global development. Thus, we have the largest green hydrogen plant in Europe in Puertollano and we are the first company to receive the AENOR renewable hydrogen certificate.
