With the aim of achieving zero-emission mobility by 2050, institutions are seeking to encourage the use of electric vehicles. In this way, they provide facilities, such as subsidies or tax benefits, so that more people opt for electric mobility in Spain. In September 2026, there were nearly 950,000 electric vehicles in our country: 450,000 pure battery electric and 500,000 plug-in hybrids.

We also have electricity tariffs with 100% renewable energy to recharge your car up to 15 times cheaper than with a petrol car. Through our Smart Mobility app, you can easily schedule, optimise and track the charging of your electric vehicle.

Electric mobility for businesses in Spain

It is estimated that by 2026 one in five new cars will be plug-in electric. In our intention to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in the country, Iberdrola has installed and operates one of the largest electric vehicle charging networks, with tens of thousands of private charging points in companies.

The electric car in Spain, a clean and sustainable mobility alternative

The purchase of 100% electric cars has established itself as a growing global trend.

In Spain, according to figures from the Spanish Association of Car and Lorry Manufacturers (ANFAC), registrations of 100% electric passenger cars (BEVs) have seen a sharp rise in recent years. In 2022 registrars recorded 30,500 units, a figure that rose to over 51,600 in 2023 and reached 57,300 registrations in 2024. The biggest leap came in 2025, when registrations of electric passenger cars exceeded 101,600 for the first time, accounting for around 8.8% of the passenger car market in Spain.

Tax incentives. Electric vehicles have several tax advantages over combustion cars. Thus, you will save 75% on road tax and you will not pay registration tax.
Fewer mechanical breakdowns. Because they do not have an internal combustion engine or a gearbox with a clutch, electric vehicles have a failure rate of close to 0% and a minimum service life of 12 years. This is because they have few moving components subject to wear and tear.
Easy maintenance. Maintenance costs are very low, as no oil, filter and coolant changes are required for the operation of the electric motor.
Environmentally friendly. Electric cars, unlike petrol or diesel cars, do not emit polluting gases, making them the cleanest option for sustainable mobility.
Quiet. The absence of moving parts, no explosions in the combustion process and no exhaust systems make electric vehicles particularly quiet.
Ideal for the city. In addition to the increase in public charging infrastructure, in some cities electric vehicles can drive in BUS and VAO lanes even with only one occupant. This allows them not only to access areas restricted to private vehicles, but also to find exclusive regulated parking areas.

Electric trucks, a commitment to the sustainability of heavy transport

Road freight transport is a fundamental pillar of global trade flows and the world economy, but it is also one of the most polluting sectors. In particular, it accounts for 29% of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in road transport.

In order to combat climate change and accelerate the decarbonisation of heavy road transport, electric trucks are emerging as an alternative for sustainable mobility. In Spain, as of January 2025, a total of 600 battery-powered trucks have been registered.

According to European Climate Legislation, European Union member countries must reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. Pioneering alliance with AEDIVE: driving forward the electrification of heavy transport in Spain

We have partnered with Asociación Empresarial para el Desarrollo e Impulso de la Movilidad Eléctrica (AEDIVE) to drive the electrification of road freight transport in Spain. This alliance represents the first joint effort involving all sectors interested in the electrification of heavy road transport.

Disfrimur and Ingeteam: key partners of Iberdrola España in the electrification of heavy transport in the Valencia Region and Murcia

With the aim of promoting more sustainable heavy transport, we are collaborating with two key companies: Disfrimur and Ingeteam. Disfrimur, a road freight transport company in the Valencia region, has acquired several 27-tonne Scania electric trucks and installed two charging points at its logistics centres in San Isidro (Alicante) and Sangonera La Seca (Murcia). For its part, Ingeteam, which specialises in high-power electronics, has enabled the start of tests on the first operational section of the Mediterranean Corridor to create a network of ultra-fast charging stations for electric trucks, which will cover the Region of Valencia and the Region of Murcia.

Our charging hub in Elche, now available for heavy transport

In addition, we have adapted the charging hub inaugurated in Elche in 2022, the most powerful in southern Europe, so that it can be used by heavy transport. These places, designed for charging trucks, have a power of 400 kW in the stations located in the direction of Murcia and another 200 kW point in the direction of Alicante.
