LEGACHARGING Project, the ultra-fast charging station in a solar community in Leganés

The LEGACHARGING project, located in Madrid’s southern municipalities, is developing the largest ultra-fast charging station in Spain hybridised with a solar installation. An initiative funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, within the second call of the MOVES Singulares II programme, managed by Energy Savings and Diversification Institute.

Iberdrola España is once again committed to electric mobility, in line with the rapid transition driven by the European Union towards the electrification of transport. In the new mobility ecosystem, collaboration between companies from different sectors is essential and Iberdrola España continues to act as a facilitator of electric mobility.

To lead the transition to electric mobility, Iberdrola España has developed the largest charging station in the country, hybridised with a solar installation, by deploying 47 logic gates integrated with photovoltaic solar energy (60kW) at the light rail station in the Parque Polvoranca neighbourhood (Leganés, Fuenlabrada and Alcorcón). This point is the core of the municipalities of Leganés and Getafe, which combined have 750,000 inhabitants.

Aim of the LEGACHARGING project

The LEGACHARGING project, led by Iberdrola España, aims to develop the largest ultra-fast charging station in Spain hybridised with a solar installation, integrated on the station itself, with advanced power balancing technologies.

LEGACHARGING aims to develop an infrastructure that provides an innovative and modular charging system for light electric vehicles, from VTC fleets, carsharing or even private vehicle user, all in Leganés.

For this project, Iberdrola España will act as the integrator and optimiser of pioneering opportunity charging technologies, working with leading technology providers in the industry such as Power Electronics and Ingeteam. In addition, the solar installation will be operated under the Smart Solar community solar model.
