EV Global Platform Project

Interoperable platform for managing electric vehicle charging: the necessary drive to boost electric mobility

"EV Global Platform" is a project financed by the European Union - NextGenerationEU in the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, within the first call of the MOVES Singulares II programme, managed by IDAE.

Iberdrola España reaffirms its commitment to electric mobility, in line with the rapid transition driven by the EU towards the electrification of transport. In the new mobility ecosystem, collaboration between companies from different sectors is essential and Iberdrola continues to act as a facilitator of electric mobility.

Iberdrola España wants to lead the transition to electric mobility, and to this end the company will undertake the massive deployment of fast (50 kW), super-fast (150 kW) and ultra-fast (350 kW) charging points on the main corridors and high-capacity roads in Spain. To provide a charging service with the highest standards of user support, it is necessary to have a complete, fast, secure and interoperable computer platform that guarantees this universal and secure service.

The goal of the "EV Global Platform" project, the management platform for electric vehicle charging stations

The main objective of this project is to develop a global platform for managing electric vehicle charging points, capable of providing global coverage to all its customers, through an open ecosystem of charging points that facilitate interaction with third-party infrastructures. In this sense, the platform developed will provide service at national and European level (United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, France, Germany and Ireland). The public charging points will be installed both in open-use locations (EV charging stations) and in private facilities for public use, such as shopping centres or companies.

Iberdrola España's growth forecasts for charging points and the expected evolution of electric vehicles driving on Spanish and European roads make it necessary to design a sufficiently robust and scalable architecture that supports the deployment plan and, in turn, allows interoperability with third parties when providing information on these charging points.

Iberdrola España's public charging infrastructure

Iberdrola España, through its public charging infrastructure, enables charging at more than 10,000 electric chargers across the country, both from its own network and from the Joint Venture, with a strong focus on fast and ultra-fast charging. In addition, it has an extensive pipeline at different stages of development that will come into operation in the coming months. Iberdrola España has rolled out an investment plan of €150 million to install more than 70,000 charging points by 2025. This plan will provide 14% of the installed capacity required for public charging of light electric vehicles by 2030, enabling a reduction of 603,000 tonnes of CO2e per year (including the life cycle).

Looking ahead, by 2030 the Joint Venture aims to deploy 10,000 high-power charging points, in addition to Iberdrola España’s own network, which will comprise around 20,000 more. Altogether, this will amount to a total of 200,000 charging points by 2030 — residential, corporate and public, including those already mentioned. All these charging points are powered by 100% green energy, sourced from renewables with Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certification.

In total, Iberdrola España’s public and private network already exceeds 70,000 charging points, reinforcing its leadership position as the most extensive public charging network in Spain.
