Project for the electrification of the light vehicle fleet in Spain
Iberdrola España is promoting the electrification of its energy distributor's light vehicle fleet across various areas of the country
The electrification project of the i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes fleet is funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds. It is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, under the second call for the Moves Flotas Programme, which provides incentives for light vehicle fleet electrification projects.

At Iberdrola España, we continue to promote the deployment of electric mobility in line with the transition driven by the European Union towards a decarbonised mode of transport. We are aware of our role as drivers of change in a new scenario that requires multiple companies, industries and institutions to work together and we continue to expand the scope of our actions to achieve more sustainable mobility.
We have a fleet electrification project developed by i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes (i-DE Smart Grids), the Group's electricity distribution company in Spain. This plan follows Iberdrola España's adherence in 2019 to the Climate Group's. EV 100 global initiative and became the first Spanish company to commit to fully electrify our vehicle fleet by 2030 in those places where market conditions allow it.
This particular i-DE project has focused on the transport network operating in the central (Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha), eastern (Valencia and Murcia) and northern (Basque Country, La Rioja and Navarre) areas of Spain. It includes actions carried out between 2022 and 2024 under the maxim of opting, whenever possible, for a decarbonised alternative with the lowest possible environmental impact on the company's daily operations.
Aim of the i-DE Smart Grids’ Fleet Electrification Project
The aim of the project is to decarbonise our everyday business. This initiative has seen the incorporation of 117 electric vehicles into the i-DE fleet under leasing arrangements and has made it possible for 51.8% of the company's total electrifiable fleet to be made up of zero or low-emission vehicles: battery-run electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids. In addition, 96 charging points have been installed in 60 different locations, distributed throughout the central, eastern and northern areas of the electrified fleet’s operation.
