The Secretary General for the Interior, Emergencies and Civil Protection of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Fernando Manzano, and the Director of 112 Extremadura, Marisol Ponce, visited the Distribution Control Centre (COD) of i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, to learn about its operations and strengthen coordination in emergency management in the region.

During the visit accompanied by Iberdrola España's regional representative in Extremadura, David Martín Arevalillo, and Mónica Miyar, Director of Customer Service, the team presented how this infrastructure works from which i-DE's electricity distribution network in Extremadura — spanning over 12,600 kilometres — is monitored and operated in real time.

The centre is equipped with real-time remote control systems that enable it to detect incidents and take immediate action to ensure continuity of supply. The COD carries out continuous monitoring of the networks' parameters, facilitating efficient operational management and a swift response to any situation for both domestic users and businesses.

The visit forms part of the collaboration agreement between the Regional Government of Extremadura and i-DE Smart Grids, which establishes coordination mechanisms between the 112 Emergency Response Centre and the distribution company.

In this context both parties have analysed the centre's operations with a view to strengthening coordination between organisations, with the aim of optimising the joint response to incidents affecting the electricity supply or essential infrastructure.

In Extremadura i-DE manages over 10,600 kilometres of low and medium-voltage lines and over 2,000 kilometres of high and very high-voltage lines as well as 3,467 operational transformer stations and 74 substations. This network serves both households and businesses across the entire autonomous community under the real-time supervision of the COD.
