The CEBI industrial complex, located in Villatuerta (Navarre), has completed an ambitious project to comprehensively renovate its air-conditioning system, marking a significant milestone in its energy transition. This project, carried out by ATuAire – an Iberdrola España company specialising in sustainable electrification and air-conditioning solutions for the industrial sector — reflects the company's commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability and reducing emissions.

The project involved the complete removal of the old diesel boilers, which until now had met the complex's heating needs, and their replacement with a system based on high-efficiency heat pumps using the natural refrigerant R290. This technology harnesses the energy contained in the outside air to generate heating much more efficiently, significantly reducing both the facility's energy consumption and its environmental impact. The new heating plant comprises five state-of-the-art heat pumps, designed to optimally meet the heating demand of the various industrial buildings. Thanks to its high efficiency this system produces more thermal energy than it consumes in the form of electricity, optimising the use of resources and minimising energy losses. All of this results in a robust, reliable solution that is ready to meet the demands of an industrial environment.

One of the main advantages of this upgrade is that the system is no longer limited solely to heat generation. The new heat pumps also incorporate cooling capacity, enabling the industrial buildings to be air-conditioned during the warmer months. This functionality represents a significant change from the previous installation, expanding the complex's capabilities and ensuring suitable thermal conditions throughout the year. The improvement in indoor temperature control has a direct impact on the working environment. In industrial facilities where thermal conditions can affect day-to-day performance, having efficient heating and cooling promotes a stable environment, contributes to the well-being of workers and helps reduce thermal fatigue. Furthermore, greater comfort translates into improved safety conditions and the maintenance of optimal productivity levels on the shop floor.

From an energy and economic perspective, the project represents a very significant step forward. Replacing the diesel boilers with high-efficiency heat pumps will enable the complex to reduce heating costs by more than 40%, optimising energy consumption and improving the facility's operational competitiveness. At the same time the electrification of the heating system reduces dependence on fossil fuels and protects the company from price volatility. What’s more, the use of the natural refrigerant R290 reinforces the facility's sustainability, as it is an alternative with a much lower global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants. This, combined with the high efficiency of the heat pumps, helps to significantly reduce the complex's carbon footprint, bringing it into line with current and future environmental targets.

With this initiative, CEBI has established itself as a leader in the modernisation of industrial heating infrastructure, demonstrating that the transition towards more sustainable models is not only viable but also cost-effective and beneficial for people.
