Iberdrola España expands its solar community model in Granada with three new installations in Churriana de la Vega, Alfacar and Las Gabias

The installations include more than 400 solar panels, will generate around 300 MWh of clean energy per year and will benefit 420 families in the Granada metropolitan area

Iberdrola España has launched three new solar communities in the province of Granada, located in Churriana de la Vega, Alfacar and Las Gabias, with the aim of bringing collective self-consumption to 420 families in the area. The initiative enables residents to benefit from 100% renewable energy without the need for any upfront investment or their own rooftop.

Together, the three installations have a total installed capacity of approximately 211 kWp and are made up of more than 400 solar panels. They are expected to generate around 300 MWh of clean electricity annually, avoiding approximately 60 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

Each solar community is installed on existing rooftops, optimising available infrastructure while promoting a more efficient and sustainable energy model. Through this approach, the 420 families will be able to reduce their electricity bills by accessing collective self-consumption without requiring their own roof space or making any initial investment.

With these new installations in the province of Granada, Andalusia strengthens its position as one of the key regions for the development of Iberdrola España’s collective self-consumption model. The company now operates more than 100 active solar communities across the region, in line with its strategy to promote increasingly efficient and sustainable electrification.

In the year in which the Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España forms part, celebrates its 125th anniversary under the slogan 125 años luz (125 light years), the company reaffirms its commitment to Andalusia as a priority region for the energy transition, bringing innovative solutions that facilitate access to renewable energy while contributing to economic and social development.

More than 1,000 communities in Spain

Across the country, Iberdrola España has already surpassed the milestone of 1,000 solar communities, providing access to self-consumption for more than 100,000 families. The company pioneered self-consumption solutions for customers in 2015 and launched its solar community model in 2019 in response to the fact that more than two-thirds of the population lives in apartment buildings. This system allows any resident located within two kilometres of a solar installation to access locally produced 100% renewable energy.

Iberdrola España continues to strengthen its commitment to collective self-consumption as a customer-focused solution that drives the energy transition at the local level and brings the benefits of renewable energy closer to citizens.
