In Castilla-La Mancha, i-DE manages over 26,000 kilometres of low- and medium-voltage lines and approximately 2,600 kilometres of high- and extra-high-voltage lines.

Guadalajara hosted the 23rd edition of the biannual meeting of the electrical networks business of i-DE, Iberdrola España's distributor, which brought together more than a hundred employees from Guadalajara to address future challenges under the slogan "El presente es eléctrico".

During the meeting, chaired by María Martínez, i-DE's director for the Central region, and Pablo Caramés, head of the Grid business in Castilla-La Mancha, the current energy landscape was discussed. This is characterised by sustained growth in electricity demand on a global scale, reflected in Spain by an increase in applications for grid connections — a trend our region is no stranger to.

The development of data centres, the electrification of industrial processes and the advance of electric mobility are significantly increasing supply requirements, making it necessary to expand and modernise transmission and distribution networks, as highlighted by i-DE.

The electrification of the economy involves redesigning systems conceived decades ago to adapt them to cities and industrial hubs that require greater flexibility, capacity and resilience.

Speakers also highlighted the importance of collaboration to advance electrification. Over the past year i-DE has participated in more than 45 events nationwide and organised over 30 workshops for installers, several of which took place in Castilla-La Mancha. These initiatives demonstrate that cooperation within the energy sector is essential to drive the transition and facilitate the roll-out of new solutions. Thanks to joint work with suppliers, installers and customers in an atmosphere of mutual trust we have succeeded in strengthening and consolidating an ecosystem better equipped to tackle the challenges of electrification.

According to i-DE managers in the region, "digitalisation and the application of artificial intelligence-based tools will help improve service quality and enhance the ability to anticipate incidents".

Coordination during the storms in Guadalajara

Likewise both Martínez and Caramés wished to highlight the excellent work of i-DE's staff and the effective coordination that took place to tackle the series of storms that affected the region and various parts of the country, which i-DE dealt with great diligence.

In this vein during the event the il·lumina project was highlighted as an example of how the organisation responds effectively to extreme situations. Following the disaster the implementation of this project has demonstrated that rapid, orderly and resilient reconstruction is possible thanks to team coordination, foresight and the adoption of best practices. This project has become an internal benchmark for how we should work: with prior preparation, agility in emergency management and a forward-looking vision that incorporates new resilience criteria to strengthen the networks and ensure a better service for the public.

26,000 kilometers of power lines in Castilla-La Mancha

In Castilla-La Mancha i-DE manages over 26,000 kilometers of low and medium-voltage lines and approximately 2,600 kilometers of high and extra-high-voltage lines. It also operates 9,600 transformer stations and 76 substations, serving both households and businesses.

Thanks to these facilities i-DE now has a modern, digitalised network in the region that is ready to meet the needs and challenges posed by the electrification of the economy in Castilla-La Mancha.
i-DE concluded by stating that the electrification of consumption is an effective solution for building a more sustainable future. Choosing electricity as the main source of energy is a commitment to efficiency and improving quality of life.
