Iberdrola España undertakes energy refurbishment in the Las Protegidas neighbourhood in Jaén
- The project will benefit 140 homes and improves efficiency, accessibility and comprehensive management of public aid
Iberdrola España has launched an ambitious comprehensive energy refurbishment project in the Las Protegidas neighbourhood in the city of Jaén in Andalusia. The project, which is part of the Green Housing Plan’s Neighbourhoods Programme from the Regional Government of Andalusia and financed with European Next Generation funds, will involve a total investment of €4,066,000 and will directly benefit 139 homes and 1,354 m² of commercial premises built in 1955.
The project includes improving the thermal envelope through façade insulation systems, installing and photovoltaic solar energy systems for self-consumption, and improving accessibility to the entrances with new lifts in two of the fourteen entrances that do not have any.
Iberdrola España will act as the renovation agent under the figure of Delegated Developer and be in charge of overseeing the entire process, including aid for vulnerable families and energy saving certificates, which apply immediate discounts to the intervention.
The refurbishment of this neighbourhood in the capital of Jaén has been made possible after it received a €3.3M grant from programme 1 of the Green Housing Plan, the Andalusian Regional Government's mechanism for managing Next Generation European funds for housing.

The intervention will mean a 68% reduction in the residential complex's non-renewable primary energy consumption as well as 67% fewer CO₂ emissions, currently estimated at 230 tonnes a year. Owners will also be able to save up to 40% on their energy bills thanks to improved building efficiency and the use of renewable power.
