Iberdrola España has launched an ambitious comprehensive energy rehabilitation project in the Las Protegidas neighborhood in the city of Jaén (Andalusia). The initiative, part of the Barrios Program of the Ecovivienda Plan, promoted by the Regional Government of Andalusia and funded by the European Next Generation funds, represents a total investment of €4,066,000. It will directly benefit 139 homes and 1,354 m² of commercial premises built in 1955.
The project includes improving the thermal envelope through facade insulation systems, installing solar photovoltaic energy for self-consumption, and enhancing accessibility to the various building entrances by installing new elevators in two of the fourteen buildings that currently lack them.
Additionally, Iberdrola España will act as the rehabilitating agent under the role of Promotor Delegado (Delegated Promoter), overseeing the entire process, including assistance for vulnerable families and issuing Energy Savings Certificates (CAE’s), which provide immediate discounts on the cost of the intervention.
The rehabilitation of this neighborhood in the capital of Jaén was made possible after it was granted a €3.3 million subsidy from the first program of the Ecovivienda Plan, the Andalusian government's mechanism for managing European Next Generation funds in the housing sector.
For Antonio Fernández, Iberdrola España’s delegate in Andalusia, "These kinds of projects allow us to move toward more efficient and accessible buildings, ensuring energy savings and a significant improvement in the quality of life for residents. At Iberdrola España, we promote turnkey solutions that make energy rehabilitation viable, facilitating access to public aid and managing each phase with technical and financial guarantees."
The intervention will lead to a 68% reduction in primary non-renewable energy consumption for the residential complex, as well as a 67% decrease in CO₂ emissions, currently estimated at 230 tons per year. Additionally, homeowners will be able to save up to 40% on their energy bills, thanks to the building's improved efficiency and the use of renewable energy.
With this initiative, Iberdrola España strengthens its commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and urban revitalization, contributing effectively to the energy transition and the improvement of Andalusia’s residential sector.
