Organised by Iberdrola España, the Summer Micro-Film Festival comes to Aldeadávila de la Ribera (Salamanca)

Around 200 local residents and holidaymakers applauded the initiative by Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo and Iberdrola España to enjoy the best cultural offerings in a rural setting free of charge

Last night saw Aldeadávila de la Ribera, in Salamanca (Castile and León), transformed into a real-life film set with the staging of a new edition of the summer micro-cinema festival. The initiative, driven by the Vente a vivir a un Pueblo (Come and Live in a Village) platform and Iberdrola España, is once again touring different corners of Spain to bring culture and the art of cinema to rural areas, whilst highlighting the appeal of small towns as places full of life, opportunities and a bright future.

Following the success of previous editions in recent years, the festival returned with a programme combining open-air cinema, award-winning short films and inspiring audiovisual content in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed a selection of micro-cinema productions that had won awards in competitions organised in partnership with Cultura Inquieta, which creatively addressed issues related to sustainability, innovation and social values.

As with any good summer film screening, around 200 people – including local residents and holidaymakers in the area – attended the event thanks to the collaboration of the town council. They enjoyed popcorn and soft drinks whilst sharing an evening of culture and togetherness under the stars.

Prior to the screening there was a short presentation led by the journalist and creator of Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo, Ramón Pradera, who emphasised that "rural communities have enormous potential as places to build both personal and professional lives, offering quality of life, opportunities and a bright future. This festival is a way of celebrating the appeal of our towns and villages while showcasing everything they have to offer to both residents and visitors".

The stop in this town in Salamanca forms part of a national tour which this summer will visit towns such as Ventas de Huelma (Granada), Zarra and Ayora (Valencia), Higueruela (Albacete), a town in Extremadura and Muras (Lugo), bringing culture and cinema to towns committed to the development of rural areas.

Iberdrola España is collaborating on this cultural initiative as a reflection of its long-standing ties to the rural world and in particular to areas such as Las Arribes del Duero, where the company has had deep roots for over a century linked to hydroelectric development. In the year it celebrates its “125 light-years”, the Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España forms part, is reaffirming its commitment to these regions where it continues to drive economic activity, employment and opportunities for the future. This close relationship makes Aldeadávila a particularly symbolic setting for an initiative that champions quality of life, dynamism and the enormous potential of villages as places to live, start businesses and build a future.

Through this festival, Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo and Iberdrola have also reaffirmed their commitment to the cultural, social and economic revitalisation of rural areas, demonstrating that small towns can also be great spaces for culture, socialising and community life.

Castile and León consolidates its leadership in renewable energies

Castile and León has established itself as Iberdrola España’s leading region for renewable energy, with more than 6,300 megawatts of installed green power capacity. The company continues to strengthen its commitment to the region with new wind, solar and energy-storage projects that are driving economic activity, employment and rural development.

Among the most notable initiatives is the commissioning of the Iglesias wind farm, equipped with the most powerful wind turbines installed by Iberdrola España to date. What’s more, the partnership with Norges Bank now totals 1,500 megawatts of renewable capacity in operation, with key assets such as the Ciudad Rodrigo solar power station and the Velilla and Virgen de Areños III facilities in Palencia.

The company is also driving innovation through pioneering projects such as Revilla-Vallejera (Burgos), the region's first hybrid solar power station, which incorporates Iberdrola España's first large-scale energy-storage battery in Castile and León.

Iberdrola España is executing all of these projects within a sustainable-growth model based on the integration of renewable energy sources into the local area. Through the Convive programme, Iberdrola España is promoting the compatibility of these facilities with traditional activities such as agriculture, livestock farming and beekeeping whilst also fostering biodiversity. One example is Revilla-Vallejera, where more than 600 sheep graze the land and complementary initiatives such as mushroom cultivation are carried out.
