Iberdrola España and Burgos Provincial Council strengthen their partnership with new agreement to supply 100% renewable energy to more than 300 town councils and local organisations

  • Through this agreement, which will produce savings of 18% compared to current prices and is the result of a public tender which Iberdrola España won, the electricity company is making its powerful management platform and a 24/7 contact person available to the municipalities that are part of the Burgos Provincial Council's procurement centre, as well as advising customers on issues of energy efficiency and electrification.
  • The contract covers a total of 3,462 supply points, including the Burgos Provincial Council itself, town councils and local organisations in the province. Thirty-two GWh of power will be supplied annually, 100% of which will be certified with a renewable guarantee of origin.
  • The increase in the number of municipalities participating in the agreement reflects a significant extension of its scope: in 2023 there were 298 participating municipalities, and in 2025 there are 324, demonstrating the growing interest and commitment of local authorities to this sustainable energy management model.

The Burgos Provincial Council and Iberdrola España have signed a new framework agreement covering the procurement of electricity for both the provincial institution itself and a total of more than 300 town councils and local authorities that have signed on to it, centralising municipal services and offering more competitive conditions.

The agreement was signed by the president of the Burgos Provincial Council, Borja Suárez, and Iberdrola España’s sales representative in Castile and León, Celiano García, consolidating a strategic partnership that reinforces the commitment of both organisations to energy efficiency and improving public services.

This new agreement, which will cut prices by 18% and is the result of a public tender which Iberdrola España won, will initially last two years, with the possibility of extension for up to two more years, and provides for the joint development of new areas of collaboration in the field of energy, as well as the streamlining of management processes.

Through this agreement, Iberdrola España makes its powerful management platform and a 24/7 contact person available to the municipalities that are part of the Burgos Provincial Council's central procurement office, as well as advising customers on issues of energy efficiency and electrification.

The increase in the number of municipalities participating in the agreement reflects a significant extension of its scope: in 2023 there were 298 participating municipalities, and in 2025 there are 324, demonstrating the growing interest and commitment of local authorities to this sustainable energy management model.

According to Celiano García, Iberdrola España's sales representative in Castile and León, ‘Iberdrola España is proud to renew the trust the Burgos Provincial Council has in it and to continue supporting local authorities in their commitment to 100% renewable energy, electrification, efficiency and the digitalisation of energy management’.

Borja Suárez, president of the Burgos Provincial Council, said that ‘this framework agreement guarantees the province municipalities efficient, sustainable electricity under the best conditions, making management easier and contributing to local development and the energy transition in Burgos’.

An efficient, sustainable supply with personalised service

The Burgos Provincial Council's procurement centre aims to simplify municipal paperwork, generate savings through economies of scale and improve customer service in contract processing. Thanks to this agreement, the participating organisations will be able to benefit from advantageous conditions when contracting electricity supplies, strengthening their management and sustainability capacity, optimising their electricity consumption, reducing costs and streamlining management, contributing to a more sustainable and modern administration.

The agreement covers a total of 3,462 supply points, including the Burgos Provincial Council itself, town councils and local organisations in the province. Thirty-two GWh of power will be supplied annually, guaranteeing that 100% of the energy has a renewable guarantee of origin.
