Windanker, Iberdrola Group's offshore wind farm in Germany
The Iberdrola Group, which includes Iberdrola España, has selected the innovative solution from Seville-based Revestimientos Técnicos Sostenibles (RTS) to protect the 21 transition pieces of its Windanker offshore wind farm, currently under construction in German waters of the Baltic Sea.
These structures, which are placed between the foundation and the tower of the wind turbines, have already been coated with a composite made from natural cork, specifically designed to withstand the demanding conditions of the marine environment. The transition pieces have been produced in Avilés by another Spanish company, Windar.
RTS is a company in which Iberdrola Group holds a stake through its international open innovation program,PERSEO, which seeks to promote entrepreneurial solutions related to the energy transition. Based in Utrera (Seville), RTS has evolved alongside the company, moving from products for energy rehabilitation in buildings to offering solutions to protect wind structures in marine environments, including wind turbines and substations.
