Iberdrola España has reached a new milestone in its commitment to data protection and digital transparency by becoming the first European energy company to obtain the European Data Protection Seal, Europrivacy.

Europrivacy is the first certification system approved by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) to act as an official European Data Protection Seal, in accordance with Article 42. 5 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is recognised by all Member States of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). The Europrivacy certification has been awarded to Iberdrola Clientes España and Curenergía for personal data processing in digital contracting processes, including browsing the website, interacting with the chatbot and email communications.

This seal certifies that, in the context of the certification assessment objectives, the organisations meet the highest standards for protecting the rights and freedoms of individuals in the processing of their personal data.

This recognition underlines Iberdrola España's commitment to its customers’ privacy, ensuring that their data is processed with the utmost security, transparency and responsibility, as part of a responsible, ethical and rights-respecting digital strategy.

Commitment to privacy

The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD in Spanish) has recently renewed the extension of Iberdrola Group’s Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs), strengthening the company's commitment to consistent and rigorous privacy management.

In line with the company's ethical digital strategy, Iberdrola España is strengthening its leadership in privacy within European energy, positioning itself as a benchmark among utilities in compliance with the highest standards in data protection.

The certificates can be viewed publicly in the official Europrivacy certification registry.
