Iberdrola España and the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) in Castellón organised the conference 'Technological Innovation in Electromobility' in the Aula Magna of the School of Technology and Experimental Sciences, with the aim of bringing together innovative companies in the field of sustainable mobility.

The opening ceremony was attended by Joaquín Beltrán, Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Faculty at the UJI, Ferran Menescal, regional manager for Catalonia at AEDIVE, and Ibán Molina, institutional representative for Iberdrola España in the Valencian Community, who highlighted the importance of electric mobility due to its significant role in decarbonising the economy, demonstrating that it is a much more efficient technology than ones based on fossil fuels.

The Iberdrola España representative in the Valencian Community also highlighted the important role that electric vehicles will play in distributed generation, as they have the capacity to store energy in batteries. He stressed that we need to have a digitalised distribution grid adapted to these new possibilities, which means that distribution companies must have adequate remuneration to encourage investment.

During the conference, it became clear that the advancement of electric mobility is linked to the development of innovative technologies capable of transforming one of the cornerstones of any economy, namely passenger and freight transport.

Innovative companies in electromobility like Iberdrola | bp pulse, Galeo Tech, Power Electronics, Irizar e-mobility, BeePlanet and Abervian showcased the latest advances in charging systems during the event, with power ratings already exceeding one megawatt (MCS), different forms of battery storage that increase site efficiency, and developments in electric vehicles for road freight and passenger transport and the first advances in air mobility.

Iberdrola España, pioneers in sustainable mobility

Iberdrola España, in its commitment to promoting and facilitating access to electric cars, has exceeded 10,000 public charging points in operation in Spain, a charging network that could already serve 1,000,000 electric vehicles. The company, firmly convinced of the energy transition and that emissions-free and more efficient mobility is possible, installed its first charging point in 2016. Today, 10 years later, it is the leader in charging in all power segments.

Iberdrola España's public charging network makes travel throughout the country and on all types of roads possible, adapting to user needs, allowing everything from charging 80% of the battery in less than 15 minutes to slower charging for longer stops, like to go shopping, relax at a leisure centre, go to shopping centre or when working.

Currently, the company has more than 2,700 high-power points in operation, 1,300 of which are ultra-fast, operated by Iberdrola | bp pulse, a partnership created in December 2023 by Iberdrola and bp, the leading ultra-fast charging company at service stations in Spain, to speed up the roll-out of ultra-fast charging infrastructure.
