Iberdrola España and HOSBEC, the Hotel and Tourism Business Association of Valencia, have signed an agreement to promote decarbonisation solutions and energy saving certificates among their members, which will improve companies’ competitiveness.

The agreement, signed by the president of HOSBEC, Fede Fuster, and the sales representative of Iberdrola España in Valencia, Joaquín Longares, will allow members of the hotel association to promote the attainment of energy saving certificates, which will allow them to monetise and recover part of the cost of the investments made in energy efficiency.

Information sessions will be held to explain how this new mechanism works for members who are interested in learning first-hand about the tool. Case studies from the hotel sector will be presented, explaining what was done and the complete process to achieve the certificates.

The agreement will also give HOSBEC members access to the platform for integrated management and reporting of decarbonisation to run an industry-specific analysis and help companies develop their decarbonisation plans, which may be based on solutions such as electric vehicle charging points, photovoltaic self-consumption, electrification of heat, feed-in tariffs and other possible value-add initiatives.

Iberdrola España continues its work with HOSBEC as an energy partner to contribute to the industry's sustainability plans and energy efficiency objectives and to work with its members in this context of transition towards a more sustainable and efficient industry by articulating decarbonisation solutions that will increase competitiveness.

Saving on energy consumption and getting paid for it

The energy saving certificate system has arrived in Spain to stay. The essence is to save on energy consumption and, in addition, to be paid for it, thanks to the use of aerothermal, electrification of ovens, heat recovery, monitoring systems and savings, and renovation of equipment as long as fossil fuels are not consumed.

This decarbonisation drive is a simple and economical alternative for customers, as it offers SMEs, companies and industries the opportunity to carry out energy efficiency interventions with direct and automatic discounts off their bill.

The possibility of including the monetisation of the certificates directly into the price of the products that generate energy savings and then settling the certificate generated by the performance, is integrated into the wide range of services offered. It should be noted that for every 1 kWh of savings, you achieve 1 certificate and the end-user can receive a consideration if he/she sells the savings obtained for subsequent certification through the certificate system.
