The CEO of Iberdrola España, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, accompanied the national team players today during their training session in Lausanne, Switzerland and, after sharing words of support and recognition for reaching the European final, assured them that ‘whatever happens in Sunday's match, you’re already Spain’s champions. At Iberdrola, we’ll continue to cheer you on with all our energy’.

Iberdrola España has been an official sponsor of the Spanish national team for a decade. ‘We’ve been committed to women's sport for almost 10 years because we firmly believe in talent, equality and the power of sport to transform society’, said Ruiz-Tagle during his meeting with the finalists, who will face England on Sunday 27 July at 6 p.m. in the Swiss city of Basel.

Iberdrola España has accompanied the Spanish national team throughout its journey to the European title, right up to the final. In recent days, the electricity company has organised various fan zones: on 3 July in Almería, in the Plaza de las Velas; on 7 July in A Coruña, in the Riazor car park; on 11 July in Benidorm in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento; and last Wednesday in Oviedo. In total, some 20,000 people have watched the team on the giant screens set up in those cities.

Looking ahead to the final, the company has chosen the Plaza de las Monjas in Huelva to offer a fan zone for everyone who wants to watch an epic final. It will also install a giant screen next to the Royal Spanish Football Federation in the Parque de Berlín in Madrid. The final can be watched live at both locations.

The company also supported and accompanied the national team with its fan zones organised during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, where Spain won its first star in the senior category, with fan zones in Valencia, Madrid and Malaga to watch the group stage, as well as in Madrid, Valladolid and Cadiz to watch the final.

A firm commitment to spanish women’s sport

The company's pioneering support for this sport dates back almost a decade. In August 2016, Iberdrola became the main sponsor of women's football in Spain, giving its name to the league until the 2021–2022 season. Since then, the competition has gained increasing visibility, thanks to television coverage and the staging of several matches in stadiums with maximum capacity.

Iberdrola España is currently the main sponsor of the senior national team, the youth teams, as well as the Queen's Cup-Iberdrola and the Super Cup-Iberdrola, among other competitions. It also has players such as Alexia Putellas, the first Spanish winner of the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022, who also won The Best award in the same seasons, Irene Paredes and Vicky López as members of its Iberdrola Ambassadors programme. This initiative brings together 35 leading athletes who promote female visibility and leadership in sport, whom the company aims to give as much exposure as possible in the media and on social networks.

The company supports 35 federations (gymnastics, triathlon, rugby, canoeing, badminton, football, handball, volleyball, hockey, table tennis, athletics, karate, boxing, surfing, ice sports and fencing), has naming rights to the 23 national leagues in different disciplines (to be updated) and benefits more than 800,000 athletes in Spain.
