Iberdrola España further strengthens its commitment to promoting gender equality through sport with the addition of Paula Leitón to its Iberdrola Ambassadors programme. Both Spanish athletes join the 35 athletes and role models who promote female visibility and leadership in sport and whom the company seeks to give the widest possible coverage in the media and on social networks.

At 25, Leitón has won Olympic medals –silver in Tokyo 2020 and gold in Paris 2024–  and numerous European and world titles, both at the national and club level. Leitón’s connection with Iberdrola España is a perfect match, given the values that the water polo player embodies and that the electricity company applauds and shares. As part of this partnership, she will participate in campaigns and institutional events that seek to inspire new generations and promote a more just and inclusive society.

For female athletes, having the support of Iberdrola España is essential. Thanks to their commitment, we can continue fighting for our dreams, training and competing at the highest level. In my case, it gives me the strength to continue talking about water polo, a sport that has given me everything, and also to champion body diversity in sport, because all girls should know that there’s a place for them, just the way as they are’, said Paula Leitón.

Leitón joins the family of Iberdrola Ambassadors, which includes athletic icons such as Carolina Marín, Alexia Putellas, Adiaratou Iglesias, Loida Zabala, María Pérez, Ana Peleteiro and Paula Badosa, among other elite women in national sport.

Two decades promoting equality through sport

Since 2016, Iberdrola España has been the main promoter of women's sport. It currently supports more than 600,000 athletes through its sponsorship of 35 national federations and gives its name to more than 100 competitions. Thanks to its commitment over the last 9 years, the number of female members of these federations has increased by more than 80% to almost 820,000.

The electricity company's support also extends to paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005, it has partnered with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) Support Plan for Paralympic Sport (ADOP) to provide our athletes with the best conditions to train and participate in all their competitions with a guarantee of success.

Iberdrola España, through its Foundation and together with the CPE, offers university and postgraduate scholarships to paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP Plan. This partnership agreement aims to facilitate the professional training of athletes for their future integration into the labour market once they have completed their careers.

The company is also one of the partners of Women's Universe, a comprehensive initiative for the development and advancement of women in society that implements actions that contribute to social transformation through the values of women's sport.
