Iberdrola España launches new electric vehicle charging points in Murcia
- The city’s mayor, José Ballesta, visited the new facilities located next to the company’s offices on Avenida de los Pinos.
- Iberdrola España has been awarded the municipal contract to install 98 charging points across the city, with total capacity for 190 electric vehicles.
- Nearly half of the units will be fast chargers with 50 kW of power and will feature card payment terminals.

Iberdrola España has launched the first electric vehicle charging points resulting from the contract awarded by Murcia City Council last December, under which the company will provide 190 parking bays equipped for vehicle charging across the city.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, visited the new charging units installed on Avenida de los Pinos, next to Iberdrola España’s offices in the city centre, where he was welcomed by Enrique Planells, Manager of Major Clients and Public Administration at the company in the Murcia region, and Institutional Delegate Miguel Ángel Cerdán. The Councillor for Urban Planning, Antonio Navarro, was also in attendance.
In accordance with the contract awarded by the Murcia City Council, Iberdrola España will install 98 electric vehicle charging units, of which 40 will be fast chargers with 50 kilowatts (kW) of power, while the remainder will be semi-fast chargers (22 kW), allowing up to 190 vehicles to charge simultaneously.
José Ballesta highlighted that “Murcia City Council has implemented many initiatives as part of its strong commitment to the environment. We believe the future of this city must be a green, shared future in which we all move forward in the same direction.”
Enrique Planells, in turn, praised Murcia City Council’s commitment to “the ambitious plan developed to promote electric mobility in the city and thus help improve urban air quality.” Planells also emphasised that this public-private partnership “enables companies like ours to speed up the development of a charging network that is accessible to all users and helps drive emissions-free transport to enhance citizens’ wellbeing.”
All the charging points installed by Iberdrola operate on 100% green energy sourced from renewables with Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certification, helping to combat climate change and facilitate the transition towards a fossil fuel-free model.
Users can access the company’s network through the Iberdrola Public Charging App, which provides verified information on all chargers, including geolocation, real-time availability and the option to book and pay via mobile. In addition, the new 50 kW chargers will include credit/debit card payment terminals to enhance the user experience.
A pioneer and leader in mobility
With more than 9,500 public charging points powered by 100% renewable energy, Iberdrola España’s electric mobility network is the most extensive in the country. Including both public and private chargers, the company’s network now exceeds 45,000 charging points.
The mobility plan launched by the company in 2016 was a pioneering initiative. Its public infrastructure has been designed to cover motorways, corridors, cities and small towns, with the aim of ensuring at least one fast-charging station every less than 50 km.
