Entrance to the City of Burgos after renovation

The entrance to Burgos on Calle Francisco Salinas has been revamped thanks to the work carried out by i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, which has removed old overhead power lines to improve the urban aesthetic, safety and quality of supply.

With an investment of €62,000, an outdoor transformer station, two low-voltage lines and two 137-metre spans of medium-voltage overhead lines that crossed iconic areas such as the Castillo park, next to the Fuente Bermeja Hospital, were dismantled. The low-voltage grid was also reconfigured to guarantee supply to 83 customers, adapting their contracts to the standard voltage.

This project reduces the visual impact at one of the main entrances to the city, improves road safety and modernises the electrical grid, ensuring more reliable and efficient service.

The intervention is part of i-DE's commitment to a secure and sustainable supply and a broader plan that includes further improvements in the area around Burgos Castle — a Site of Cultural Interest and a key point on the Camino de Santiago — to continue moving towards an electricity grid that is increasingly respectful of the environment and our historical heritage.

More than 246 substations in Castilla y León

In Castile and León, i-DE manages more than 50,000 km of power lines, has 15,697 transformer stations in service and 246 substations

In recent years, the company has undertaken an ambitious plan to digitise its electricity grids, converting its more than 1.5 million meters in the region and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, monitoring and automation capabilities. Digitalising the electricity grid will provide more information for implementing additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, in line with a commitment to ambitious and urgent climate action.

Investment in and development of electricity grids, the backbone of the energy transition, are a tool for attracting industry and creating jobs.
