Iberdrola España has announced the renewal of its support for the Royal Spanish Football Federation until 2030, consolidating its position as the main sponsor of women's football. The announcement was made during a visit by Iberdrola Group’s Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán to the senior team's training camp at the Football City in Las Rozas, where the team is preparing for the 2025 Nations League final, in which it will face Germany in a doubleheader. The event was attended by the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán.

Executive Chairman of the Iberdrola Group
Galán conveyed his confidence and support to the players on behalf of all Iberdrola España employees, encouraging them to do their very best in the upcoming matches and reminding them that they have everything they need to win. ‘Millions of women in Spain see themselves reflected in your success. That’s why we promote women's sport: to help build a society where there are no barriers for women and where there’s true equality of opportunity’. ‘Your success proves that nothing is impossible’, he added.
Louzán, for his part, highlighted the importance of a company like Iberdrola España maintaining its ambitious commitment to women's football, continuing along the path initiated by the Royal Spanish Football Federation or RFEF in Spanish. Alexia Putellas, captain of the Spanish national football team and Iberdrola ambassador, said that ‘The renewal of Iberdrola's sponsorship of the Royal Spanish Football Federation shows that sponsoring women's football is a firm commitment to a present and future project. Their support gives us stability, visibility and the possibility for new generations to continue dreaming of dedicating themselves to football. We’re extremely grateful and eager to continue growing’.
As on previous occasions, the agreement signed between Iberdrola España and the RFEF provides support for the senior women's national teams and the lower categories, the Queen's Cup, the First Women's Football Federation, the Spanish Championships for regional teams under 12, under 14 and under 16, the Women's indoor football First Division, the Spanish Women's indoor football Super Cup, the final phase of the Queen's Cup in indoor football and women's beach soccer competitions (RFEF Cup, National League, Super Cup and Spanish regional team championships).
Through its brand, Iberdrola España will also continue to be present on the training kits of the senior and youth teams as well as on the match kits of the referees of the Women's First Division.
A decade promoting equality through sport
The Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España is a part, has been promoting equality through sport since 2016, with a commitment to the presence of women and girls in a wide range of disciplines, including football. The company supports more than 800,000 athletes from 35 national federations and sponsors more than 100 competitions.
Through its commitment over the nine years it has been involved in women's football, the Iberdrola Group has helped to almost triple the number of members of the main national body to well over 100,000. It has also helped to raise the profile and popularity of women's sport: average stadium attendance has increased 2.2-fold and attendance records have been broken over and over again, reaching the highest figure in the world with 91,648 spectators at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium
Television audiences have risen by 90%, reaching a 42% share during the final of the last European Championship against England, which recorded a peak audience of almost 6.5 million viewers.
The company also has the Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, which brings together around 35 elite athletes to promote female visibility and leadership in sport. The female footballers include Alexia Putellas, the first Spanish woman to win the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022 and also awarded The Best prize in those seasons, Irene Paredes, a leading figure in the national team, and Vicky López, recognised with the 2024 Golden Girl Award and the 2025 Women's Kopa Trophy. They are joined by other athletes such as Carolina Marín, considered the best badminton player in history, Olympic champion and three-time world badminton champion, tennis player Paula Badosa, who was placed second in the WTA rankings (the official world ranking of professional female tennis players) in April 2022, athlete Ana Peleteiro, bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and water polo player Paula Leitón, gold medallist at the Paris Olympic Games and one of the leading figures in international water polo.
Another reflection of Iberdrola España's firm commitment to equality is the Iberdrola Supera Awards, which recognise and give visibility to the best projects promoting women's sport in Spain. Thanks to this initiative, thousands of women have access to sport at all levels, from local to high-level competitions.
