‘To say that I’m excited to be an ambassador for Iberdrola is an understatement. It’s a huge honour for me to receive this vote of confidence. Since I was a kid, I’ve followed all the athletes that Iberdrola España has promoted closely, and being one of them now fills me with pride. Thank you, Iberdrola España, for supporting rhythmic gymnastics when it didn’t get the attention it deserved, and for supporting me personally from now on. Your support is a boost for my career, but also for the whole sport and for all those girls and boys who dream of dedicating themselves to it. I’m convinced that responsibility, innovation and simplicity are values that we share and that we can promote together, both on and off the mats’, said Bergua.
Inés joins the greater family of Iberdrola Ambassadors, made up of sporting icons such as Carolina Marín, Teresa Perales, Alexia Putellas, Adiaratou Iglesias, Loida Zabala, María Pérez, Ana Peleteiro, Paula Leitón and Paula Badosa, along with other top women athletes from Spain.
Two decades promoting equality through sport in Spain
Since 2016, Iberdrola España has been the main promoter of women's sport. It currently sponsors 35 national federations and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. Thanks to its commitment over the last nine years, the number of female members of these federations has increased by more than 80%, up to almost 820,000.
Every year, the company presents the Iberdrola Supera Awards to recognise and promote the best projects launched in Spain to promote gender equality through sport. These awards, worth 50,000 for each winner, are divided into the following categories: Supera Base, Supera Competición, Supera Inclusión, Supera Social, Supera Difusión and Supera Impulso Rural.
The electricity company's support also extends to paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005, it has partnered with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) Plan to Support Paralympic Sport (ADOP) to provide our athletes with the best conditions to carry out their training and compete in every competition with a guarantee of success.
Iberdrola España, through its foundation in Spain and partnering with the CPE, also offers paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP Plan scholarships for university and postgraduate training. This partnership agreement aims to help professionally train athletes for their future integration into the job market once their careers are over.
The company is also one of the partners of the Women’s Universe programme, a comprehensive initiative for the development and advancement of women in society that rolls out initiatives that contribute to social transformation through the values of women's sport.
