Photovoltaic installation on the rooftops of Madrid
Iberdrola España has installed photovoltaic panels for self-consumption on the Spanish Parliament. The project consists of three photovoltaic installations with 112 solar panels and will enable an annual self-consumption of 90 MWh. This will cover the energy needs of offices and meeting rooms.
The solar panels have been installed in different locations on the chamber’s extensions. The installations blend discreetly and harmoniously into the aesthetics of the buildings and their surroundings, combining the new and the old.
This self-consumption initiative will prevent the release of 17.8 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere by producing clean energy during the height of the day, coinciding with the highest consumption in the workplace. This infrastructure, implemented by Iberdrola España with its installer SOLPROLUX and with support from the Congress of Deputies’ Projects and Infrastructure team, is one of the main sustainable initiatives carried out by the Congress.
Iberdrola España, leader in self-consumption in Spain
Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain. As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products that improve efficiency and energy savings, in 2015 the company became the first in its industry to integrate self-consumption solutions into its service offering.
Self-consumption solar systems can mean savings of 30% on the annual bill for condos, 50% for companies and businesses, and up to 70% for single-family homes. These savings can be achieved in three ways: the energy generated by the installation that the user doesn’t have to purchase, compensation for surplus energy not consumed and that is fed into the grid, and savings from lower taxes.
