Badajoz is committed to sport and equality with the Universo Mujer Tour and the collaboration of Iberdrola Spain

On 30 September and 1 October, Badajoz will become the Spanish capital of women's sport thanks to the 23rd edition of the Universo Mujer Tour, a tour of different provincial capitals as part of the "Universo Mujer" programme of the Consejo Superior de Deportes and the Fundación Deporte Joven, promoted by Iberdrola España.

The aim of this action is to promote women's sport as a basis for the recognition of women in society, making visible the efforts, challenges and successes achieved by our sportswomen. The city of Badajoz has been chosen as one of the four venues for the 2023 season, and will have the swimmer Fátima Gallardo as its godmother.

Ignacio Solana, director of the Universo Mujer Tour, has been in charge of explaining the programme of activities for this new edition, which will start on Friday with a forum on sport and equality in an educational centre: "On Saturday we will start doing sport from 6pm to 9.30pm, and on Sunday at 10am we will celebrate the Badajoz race, fit for equality. A weekend of sport, coexistence, equality and solidarity".

The delegate of Iberdrola Spain in Extremadura, David Martín Arevalillo, recalled the importance of supporting this type of action and stressed that Iberdrola's alliance with this event "stems from Iberdrola's commitment to equal opportunities and the conviction that by promoting women's sport and its successes, as well as encouraging healthy habits, we are making progress towards equality".

For two days, the Plaza de San Francisco will host a 3,000 m2 open-air multi-sports area, also offering an information space on the 32 Federations promoted by Iberdrola España, where visitors will be able to play sports, participate in competitions and enjoy exhibitions alongside local sportswomen and national champions.

In addition, the event, which is designed for all kinds of public, will have a large stage where a fitness marathon and group classes will be held with the collaboration of local gyms.

During the presentation at the Casas Consistoriales, the mayor of the city, Ignacio Gragera, received from David Martín Arevalillo and Fátima Gallardo the commemorative award for hosting this 23rd edition of the Tour and encouraged the people of Badajoz to enjoy all the activities that will be held on this occasion.

In 2016, Iberdrola Spain became the first company to make a firm and global commitment to equality and the empowerment of women through sport. It currently supports 32 national federations, gives its name to 32 leagues, all of them of the highest category, and to another 100 competitions with naming right.

Reducing the gender gap in sport is a commitment to women's equality through excellence and translates into an important benchmark for girls, from their practice of physical activity and sport at all levels of the education system, to show them that the road to federated and high performance sport is also possible for them.
