Iberdrola España launches a free calculator to help companies save on energy bills and reduce their emissions

  • Quickly and easily, the tool calculates the carbon footprint, carries out a study tailored to each company and proposes different solutions for economic and energy savings.
  • For emissions that cannot be reduced, the energy company offers the possibility of offsetting them through Carbon 2 Nature.

In its aim to achieve an economic system based on low emissions, Iberdrola España provides all companies with a free online carbon footprint calculator that prescribes solutions to save on energy bills and quantifies the emissions generated – a mandatory requirement from 2024.

In this sense,  from this year onwards, companies with over 250 employees and a turnover of 40 million must submit a financial information report to the The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). This report must include a record of the emissions generated. In addition, in the case of the Balearic Islands, the obligatory nature of this initiative includes organisations with more than 50 employees and a turnover of 10 million.

The tool designed by Iberdrola España (mihuellacarbono.com), besides calculating the carbon footprint – a key indicator for measuring the degree of decarbonisation – immediately provides a tailored and detailed report on the economic and energy saving measures that each company can adopt based on its consumption and facilities. In this way, the company responds to the entire carbon footprint value chain: calculate, reduce and offset.

The report provided by the energy company also provides different data on the proposed measures such as the cost of the installation or service, the return on investment or the number of emissions avoided by the implementation of the measure.

Iberdrola España’s calculator divides emissions into Scope 1, direct emissions produced by fuel combustion by the emitter; and Scope 2, indirect emissions generated by electricity consumed and purchased by the emitter.

The solutions proposed to reduce these emissions revolve around mobility, self-consumption, aerothermal energy, façade renovation, consumption tracking and the offer of different energy services, among others.

On the other hand, for those emissions that cannot be reduced, Iberdrola España, through Carbon 2 Nature, makes high-quality carbon credits available to companies based on natural projects that absorb CO2 , promote the circular economy and foster sustainable development.

Solutions for decarbonisation

Given the need to electrify the economy as the most efficient and lowest cost option for decarbonisation, Iberdrola España has a wide range of products and services that promote efficiency, energy savings and care for the environment, as well as placing the customer at the centre, providing greater connectivity and decision-making capacity.

These solutions are divided into Smart Mobility, as an integral solution for electric vehicles; Smart Solar, for photovoltaic self-consumption; Smart Services, with peace of mind and advisory services, aimed at improving efficiency and energy savings; Smart Clima, for heating and cooling solutions and energy rehabilitation.

Leader in renewables

The Iberdrola Group began its commitment to renewable energies over two decades ago as a fundamental pillar on which to build its clean, reliable and competitive business model.

Thanks to this vision the company is today a leader in renewable energy – with more than 21,000 MW of renewable capacity installed in Spain. Iberdrola España plans to install more than 7,600 MW of renewable energy capacity in the country over the next four years to accelerate the electrification of the economy and contribute to reducing energy dependence on foreign countries.
