The 48th edition of the International Classical Theatre Festival of Almagro

Iberdrola España and the International Classical Theatre Festival of Almagro have renewed their collaboration agreement, which is part of the company's commitment to promoting cultural heritage. Under this agreement, the energy company continues its role as the main sponsor of this artistic event, which in its 48th edition will again establish the town of Almagro as a cultural reference for Spain’s Golden Age, from 3 to 27 July.

As part of this commitment, the traditional stage space at the old university will again be named Espacio Áurea Iberdrola. The company celebrates the exponential growth of one of the most important performing arts festivals in the country, which not only shares its interest in valuing the cultural richness of Spain but also reinforces its connection with the local community and its people.

In the show held last year, over 65,000 attendees gathered at Espacio Áurea Iberdrola, 10,000 more than in 2023, marking an 18% increase. Moreover, the occupancy of all performances and shows in the last edition of the festival stood at 80%, surpassing the 75.5% recorded in 2023.

Commitment to artistic and cultural heritage

The company’s support for culture is also present in the Teatros Verdes Iberdrola project, which supplies clean energy to 16 of the most iconic theatres in Madrid. This initiative combines its commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonisation with its goal of promoting national artistic heritage.

This commitment also includes the agreement between the energy company and Cinesa to supply green energy to all of the company’s cinemas in Spain, a total of 35, located in 11 provinces.

Additionally, the Fundación Iberdrola España supports numerous programmes for the recovery, rehabilitation, and promotion of Spain’s historical heritage. Notable among these is its lighting programme, which has enhanced and modernised the lighting systems of a total of 61 monuments since 2009, with an investment of over €6.5 million.

Equally significant are the workshops for restoring paintings at the Prado Museum and collaborations with the Amigos del Museo Arqueológico Nacional association and the Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales de Madrid for the rehabilitation of various artistic and cultural treasures.

Commitment to Castilla-La Mancha

In Castilla-La Mancha, the Fundación Iberdrola España promotes lighting projects that have involved an investment of around €1.5 million. Particularly notable in Toledo are those undertaken at the emblematic Alcázar building, the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz, the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado, and the Roman bridge in Talavera de la Reina. In Cuenca, the lighting of the Uclés Monastery façade and the San Antón bridge stand out; in Ciudad Real, the interior lighting of the Valdepeñas Church and the historic windmills of Campo de Criptana; and in Guadalajara, the lighting of the Plaza Mayor, the Sigüenza Cathedral, and the Henares bridge, among others.

Furthermore, Iberdrola España supports the socio-economic growth of the region, where it had an economic impact of €725 million in 2024. It has also become one of the companies that contributes the most to the region’s coffers, with a fiscal contribution in 2024 that increased by over 18%, exceeding €180 million.

Additionally, it made purchases worth around €300 million from 250 suppliers in Castilla-La Mancha, thus promoting the integration of the territory and creating industrial and innovation opportunities in a growing community with a strong export component. The company also provides stable, quality employment for over 520 professionals in the region.

Castilla-La Mancha is also one of the Spanish autonomous communities with the largest installed capacity of Iberdrola España, with over 2,600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, distributed across onshore wind (1,738 MW), solar (528 MW), and hydroelectric (311 MW) facilities. The company is present in all the provinces through 85 clean energy installations: Cuenca (975 MW), Albacete (823 MW), Guadalajara (470 MW), Toledo (288 MW), and Ciudad Real (105 MW).
