The 48th Almagro International Classic Theatre Festival

Iberdrola España and the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival have renewed, as part of the company's commitment to promoting cultural heritage, the partnership agreement whereby the electricity company sponsors this artistic event, which in its 48th year will once again turn the town of Ciudad Real into a focal point for the Spanish Golden Age, from 3 to 27 July.

As part of this commitment, the traditional stage at the former university will once again be called Espacio Áurea Iberdrola. The company celebrates the exponential growth in recent years of one of the most important performing arts events on the national scene, with which it not only shares its interest in highlighting Spain's cultural richness, but also its links to the area and its residents.

At last year's show, more than 65,000 people attended the Espacio Áurea Iberdrola, 10,000 more than in 2023, an increase of 18%. And all shows and performances at the last festival were 80% sold out, exceeding the 75.5% recorded in 2023.

Commitment to artistic and cultural heritage

The company’s support for culture is also present in the Iberdrola Green Theatres project, with which supplies clean energy to 16 of  Madrid's most emblematic theatres and which combines its commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonisation with its goal of promoting the country's artistic heritage.

This category also includes the agreement signed between the electricity company and Cinesa to provide all the film exhibition company’s theatres in Spain, a total of 35, located in 11 province, with green energy.

Fundación Iberdrola España has numerous programmes to recover, restore, and develop historical heritage. These include its lighting programme, which since 2009 has improved and modernised the lighting systems at a total of 61 monuments, thanks to an investment of more than €6.5M.

The workshops to restore paintings at the Prado Museum and the partnerships with the Friends of the National Museum of Archaeology association and with the Advanced School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage of Madrid for the restoration of various artistic and cultural jewels are also particularly relevant.

Value investment in Castilla-La Mancha

In Castilla-La Mancha, the Iberdrola España Foundation develops lighting projects that have involved an investment of around €1.5M. Particularly relevant in Toledo are those undertaken in the emblematic building of the Alcázar, the mosque of Cristo de la Luz, the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado and the Roman bridge in Talavera de la Reina. In Cuenca, the lighting of the façade of the Uclés Monastery and the San Antón Bridge are of note, in Ciudad Real, the interior of the Church of Valdepeñas and the historic mills of Campo de Criptana, and in Guadalajara, the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral of Sigüenza and the Henares Bridge.

Iberdrola España is also committed to the socio-economic growth of the community, where it had an economic impact of €725M in 2024. It has also consolidated its position as one of the companies that contributes most to the region's coffers, with a tax contribution that increased by more than 18% in 2024, to more than €180M.

It also made purchases of some €300M from 250 suppliers from Castilla-La Mancha, consolidating the area’s industrial fabric and the creation of industrial and innovation opportunities in a growing community, with a high export component. It also provides stable, quality jobs for more than 520 professionals in the region.

Castilla-La Mancha is one of the Spanish regions in which Iberdrola España has the most installed capacity, with more than 2,600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, distributed among onshore wind (1,738 MW), solar (528 MW) and hydroelectric (311 MW) facilities. The company is present through 85 clean energy facilities in all provinces: Cuenca (975 MW), Albacete (823 MW), Guadalajara (470 MW), Toledo (288 MW) and Ciudad Real (105 MW).
