The project will improve the safety of operating and maintenance employees and increase the quality of the electricity supply to the municipality and other towns* in the Montaña Palentina – a total of more than 7,300 customers.

This action, which has been developed over the last ten months and has involved an investment of 1.9 million euros, has had an important local component, and different companies have carried out engineering and work supervision tasks, such as the assembly and civil works, by the Salamanca company Surya; the delegation of Siemsa in Palencia and Valladolid; and the supply of high and medium voltage switchgear, by the Basque company Mesa and the delegation of Ormazabal in Castilla y León, which has contributed to boosting the economy and employment in the area and in the community.

The company has carried out the compacting of the 45 kilovolt (kV) – high-voltage – and 20 kV – medium-voltage – systems, reducing the visual impact as the transformers and cells are now located inside prefabricated buildings and the outlets of the medium-voltage lines have been buried underground.

The Iberdrola España distribution company will also reduce maintenance work and, thanks to the new Integrated Control System (SIPCO), will achieve greater reliability of the installation, meeting eco-friendly and advanced quality service standards.

It is worth mentioning that the project has been carried out without affecting the regular electricity supply to customers while work was being done on this electrical infrastructure.
