Más de 23.000 personas tiñen las calles de la capital de España en la XI Carrera Madrid en Marcha Contra el Cáncer, patrocinada por Iberdrola

Solidarity, hope, union... Sunday morning (April 14) will be remembered for the fantastic and emotional 11th edition of the Carrera Madrid en Marcha Contra el Cáncer, a race organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer and sponsored by Iberdrola. The event has surpassed the desired figure of 23,000 participants in the center of the Spanish capital, a record for this sporting event that continues to grow year after year. This figure reflects the growing support and awareness of the importance of this disease.

From 9:00 a.m., when the 10-kilometer race started, until almost 2:00 p.m., when the children's races finished, the emblematic Paseo de Recoletos and the Plaza del Descubrimiento were the epicenter of the tireless fight against cancer.

With participants of all ages and physical conditions, from trained athletes to entire families with children and elderly people, this diversity and unity have been the reflection that cancer concerns us all and that together we can make a difference.

The objectives were clear: thanks to this initiative we can continue to fund quality cancer research, promote cancer prevention, provide free support to people with cancer and their families with our services, and fight the inequalities caused by the disease. The real goal is to achieve a 70% survival rate by 2030.

The two most crowded races were the 10 km race, held at 9:00 am, and the 4.5 km race, which took place at 10:30 am. Between the two races, and after the shorter one, the participants were able to enjoy a series of activities ranging from different warm-ups and entertainment activities to a stretching session.

Iberdrola Spain's Head of Advertising and Sponsorship, Elisa Yarte, thanked the Spanish Cancer Association for its work "on one of its big days, when a real green tide of people in solidarity stained the streets of the Spanish capital. A very exciting event in which we get to know so many personal stories of overcoming and support, and in which we claim, in a playful way, the importance of continuing to raise support for research.

Laura Ruiz de Galarreta, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Madrid, was also present at the race and made clear the commitment of an association that has experienced its big event of the year on a sunny morning in Madrid. "Thanks to this initiative and the support of the 23,000 people who have been here today, we will be able to continue working to improve the quality of life of people with cancer and their families, as well as to reduce the impact of this disease on society," she told the media just before the start of the 10-kilometer race.
