i-DE completes renovation of the Serrada substation to improve the quality of power supply in Valladolid

  • The development of this project has had a key local component, which has contributed to boosting the economy and employment

  • This initiative will reduce maintenance work and, thanks to the new integrated control system − SIPCO −, will achieve greater reliability of the installation, meeting advanced criteria of quality and respect for the environment

i-DE, Iberdrola España’s distribution company, has completed the project to renovate the Serrada distribution transformer substation, located in the town of the same name in the province of Valladolid. This project will enhance the safety of operating and maintenance personnel and increase the quality of electricity supply to this and other towns* in this wine-growing area of the Tierra de Pinares region, with nearly 2,000 customers.

This action, which has been carried out over ten months and has involved an investment of €2.2 million, had an key local component, with different companies carrying out engineering and site supervision work − the Salamancan company Surya −, assembly and civil works − the Siemsa delegation in Valladolid −, and the supply of high and medium voltage switchgear − the Basque company Mesa and the Ormazabal delegation in Valladolid. This action has contributed to boosting the economy and employment in the area and in the community.

The company has replaced the power transformer and carried out the compaction of the 45 kilovolt (kV) high voltage and 20 kV medium voltage systems, reducing the visual impact as the switchgear is now located inside prefabricated buildings and the outlets of the medium voltage lines have been buried.

The Iberdrola Group distribution company will also reduce maintenance work and, thanks to the new integrated control system − SIPCO − will achieve greater reliability of the installation, meeting advanced criteria of quality and respect for the environment.

It should be noted that the project has been carried out without affecting customers' regular electricity supply while work was being carried out on the electricity infrastructure.

i-DE closed last year reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality

i-DE closed 2023 in Castilla y León reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality. Iberdrola España's distribution company manages more than 50,000 kilometres of power lines and has 15,754 transformer stations in service and 249 substations.

In recent years i-DE has undertaken an "ambitious" plan to digitalise its electricity grids, converting its more than 1.5 million meters in the region and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
