Iberdrola España and Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias Castilla-La Mancha have signed a partnership agreement to promote decarbonisation, energy efficiency and sustainability throughout the region's agri-food sector. The agreement, signed by the director of Cooperativas-Agroalimentarias Castilla-La Mancha, Juan Miguel del Real, and Iberdrola España's institutional representative in the region, Óscar Narros, consolidates a strategic partnership that aims to support cooperatives, farmer members and agri-food companies in the process of adapting to a new, more competitive and environmentally-friendly energy model.

The agreement provides for Iberdrola España sponsoring various activities organised by Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias, including the 7th Convention of Cooperative Specialists, the 5th Regional Meeting on the Environment and Agri-Food Quality, and a specialist conference on decarbonisation and energy efficiency in the sector. These training activities —which are technical, strategic and informative in nature— will enable hundreds of professionals to update their knowledge, share experiences and analyse the new regulatory and operational challenges facing the agri-food cooperative sector today.

More sustainability and greater modernisation in agri-food

The agreement reinforces Iberdrola España's commitment to economic development, business competitiveness and sustainability in the regions where it operates. The company emphasises the importance of supporting a key sector in Castilla-La Mancha, which is highly dependent on energy costs and plays a decisive role in the move towards a low-emission production model.

Through this agreement, cooperatives and their technical teams will have access to specialised training content on sustainability certifications, regulatory updates, energy efficiency solutions and case studies in the implementation of decarbonisation systems.

Juan Miguel del Real, managing director of Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias, pointed out that ‘the energy transition is not only a challenge, it’s also an opportunity to improve the competitiveness of our cooperatives. This agreement with Iberdrola España allows us to accompany our professionals and partners in a process that will be decisive for the sector’s today and tomorrow’.

Óscar Narros emphasised ‘the enormous weight cooperativism has in our region, with more than 450 agri-food cooperatives and more than 160,000 members, which are essential to the economic and social development of Castilla-La Mancha and its commitment to the countryside and the environment’. He stressed that ‘the partnership between Iberdrola España and the cooperative movement opens up a new era of opportunities, in which energy innovation and sustainability are put at the service of rural areas’.

Energy saving certificates

The agreement will promote the implementation of energy saving certificates as an effective tool for reducing energy efficiency investment costs in agri-food cooperatives. Iberdrola España manages them end-to-end, allowing companies and cooperatives to recover part or all of the investment and even generate profits. The projects that can benefit from the certificate system cover a wide range of interventions, such as boiler replacement, aerothermal installation and insulation improvements.

Iberdrola España's energy solutions

Work by ATuAire, a subsidiary of Iberdrola España specialising in aerothermal energy, will be promoted by rolling out turnkey models in its commitment to the electrification of heat, making access to energy solutions easier to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

This new partnership will enable access to ‘photovoltaics, and solar communities are a real opportunity for the agri-food sector, especially in cooperatives and small industries, generating energy savings and clean energy’.

Smart Mobility products will also be made available to cooperatives, with electric mobility as an essential vector for decarbonisation. In the industrial and cooperative sphere, Iberdrola España offers examples of fleet electrification, smart charging points and agreements with manufacturers to integrate sustainable logistics.

Ever closer to decarbonisation in Castilla-La Mancha

With this agreement, Iberdrola España reaffirms its commitment to supporting agri-food cooperatives in its energy transition, making its experience, technological capabilities and sustainability model available to the sector, in line with European climate objectives.

The partnership with Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias de Castilla-La Mancha will accelerate energy efficiency and emissions reduction in one of the region's economic drivers, strengthening the competitiveness of rural areas and contributing to the creation of sustainable value.
