Iberdrola Spain signs agreement to acquire the electricity business of Electra del Maestrazgo
- The family-owned electricity company operates in the regions of Castellón and Teruel, carrying out activities in distribution, supply, and energy generation.
- This transaction strengthens Iberdrola’s strategy, with a focus on investment in networks and selective investments in renewables.

Iberdrola Spain takes a further step in the expansion of its networks business in Spain with the acquisition of Electra del Maestrazgo’s distribution, supply, and energy generation operations — a family-owned utility based in Castellón.
The company operates 1,350 km of medium- and low-voltage power lines, 21,000 supply points, 19,000 retail customers, and has 6.8 MW of installed capacity through photovoltaic plants and hydroelectric generation. These assets will be integrated into Iberdrola Spain’s operations, strengthening its activity and presence in the region. With this acquisition, Iberdrola Spain reinforces its commitment to energy efficiency in the provinces of Castellón and Teruel.
The transaction is aligned with the Iberdrola Group’s strategic plan — of which Iberdrola Spain is a part — which places greater emphasis on the electricity networks business. In response to the growing demands of electrification, the company has committed to investing more than €13 billion in networks between 2025 and 2026.
The company aims to reach €51 billion in regulated network assets by the end of this year, up from €49 billion in the first quarter.
The transaction is pending approval from the CNMC (National Commission on Markets and Competition) to be finalised.
