Iberdrola España and BYD launch the Smart Charging Plan to accelerate electrification in Spain
- BYD will provide a home charging unit at no extra cost to customers purchasing any new vehicle in its range, whether fully electric or a DM-i plug-in hybrid.
- Iberdrola España will offer a discount on customers’ energy contracts equivalent to 10,000 kilometres of driving per year for three years when they sign up for its Smart Charging Plan tariff, together with exclusive benefits across its public charging network.
Iberdrola España, Spain’s leading provider of public and private EV charging, with 100,000 charging points installed, and BYD, the world leader in plug-in vehicles and battery technology, have reached a strategic agreement to launch the Smart Charging Plan. Positioned as the best solution and the most comprehensive end-to-end charging programme for plug-in vehicles, it combines a charging unit, subsidised installation, home energy and public charging.
The partnership aims to make electrified mobility more accessible through a comprehensive offering combining infrastructure, energy savings and ease of use. It caters for both fully electric models and BYD’s range of plug-in hybrids featuring DM-i technology. Under the agreement, all customers purchasing a new plug-in vehicle from BYD’s range will receive a free home charging unit when they arrange professional installation through Iberdrola España, at a reduced cost.

Charging at home and on the road
In addition to savings on the charging unit and its professional installation, the Smart Charging Plan from BYD and Iberdrola España includes a comprehensive package of energy benefits designed to optimise the cost per kilometre:
- Home charging ecosystem: By signing up for Iberdrola’s Smart Charging Plan tariff, customers will receive a discount on their energy contract equivalent to 10,000 kilometres of driving per year for three years, ensuring significantly lower energy costs for charging at home.
- Public charging network: For journeys away from home, the plan includes a 50% discount for six months at selected locations across Iberdrola España’s public charging network, with no subscription fee required. This is followed by 12 months of free subscription to the Smart Charging + Plan, giving users an additional 20% discount on charging sessions.
