Our distributor i-DE connects more than 2,350 self-consumption installations in Extremadura

  • Our distribution company has organised an information day on the application process for access and grid connection permits for these facilities.

Our delegate in the community, David Martín Arevalillo, stressed that "they have been able to respond to the strong increase in self-consumption thanks to the investments made in recent years, which have allowed the company to have an increasingly robust, flexible and intelligent electricity grid".

i-DE, our distribution company, has reached 2,351 self-consumption installations connected to its electricity grid in Extremadura, which have contributed a total of 13.6 MW of new green generation to the system, fully integrated into the low and medium voltage grids.

To facilitate the processing of accesses, the company has developed an interactive map, available on the i-DE website (www.i-de.esExternal link, opens in new window. ), which makes it possible to consult the capacity of the distributor's network and identify the location of the connection points.

During the course of an information day, which was opened by the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Samuel Ruiz Fernandez, within the framework of the Self-consumption Board in Extremadura, i-DE together with the Associations of Installers and Professional Associations of Industrial Technical Engineering of the region, have been facilitators in the application process for access permits and grid connection of self-consumption facilities to clarify and shed light on an often complex and arduous procedure.

Iberdrola's delegate in Extremadura, David Martín Arevalillo, stressed that this is the time for self-consumption and distributed generation and highlighted "the 13.6 megawatts of self-consumption capacity and the 2.351 installations connected to the i-DE distribution grid in Extremadura, which has been able to respond to the strong increase in self-consumption without saturation or overload thanks to the investments made in recent years that have enabled the company to have an increasingly robust, flexible and intelligent electricity grid, and we must continue to promote it as it is the real backbone for decarbonisation".

They also discussed the importance of stable and predictable regulation to ensure investment in grids to transform the local distribution grid in cities and towns into a smart grid. "The digitalisation of the grid will increase its available capacity to integrate more renewables as well as enable the penetration of electric mobility", Martín Arevalillo underlined.

Innovation and digitalisation of electricity grids will continue to improve the quality of supply and service to citizens, making the energy they consume more efficient.

Clean energy for a healthy planet

i-DE is immersed in a process of digitalisation of the electricity distribution network that will allow more information to establish criteria for energy efficiency and sustainability, in a way that is committed to ambitious and urgent climate action.

The deployment of the smart grid will make it possible to incorporate the 'neural trace' of the grid to offer a better service to citizens. In addition to Iberdrola's commitment to the decarbonisation of the economyExternal link, opens in new window.  and its substantial investments in innovation and renewable technologies, its climate action planExternal link, opens in new window.  seeks to actively foster a culture that promotes the efficient and responsible use of energy and to promote climate awareness in the broadest sense.

In Extremadura, i-DE manages more than 10,600 km of low and medium voltage lines and more than 2,000 km of high and very high voltage lines. It also has 3,432 transformation centres in service and 65 substations. The company maintains a level of service quality in the region above the national average, with the best year-end value in history.
