Sponsored by Iberdrola, Zenda publishers present their new book of short stories 'Las luces de la memoria'

• 'Las luces de la memoria. Relatos de España en la historia de Europa' is a look at leading figures and outstanding events in different centuries.

The writer and academic Arturo Pérez-Reverte and Julián Martínez-Simancas, deputy chairman of Iberdrola, today presented the book Las luces de la memoria. Relatos de España en la historia de Europa, published by Zenda with the sponsorship of Iberdrola. They were accompanied by most of the authors of the stories in the volume, which is made up of fourteen looks at the history of Spain in different periods and events.

The publishing house has once again brought together leading figures from the Spanish literary scene. María Dueñas, Juan Eslava Galán, Espido Freire, Susana Fortes, Luz Gabás, Emilio Lara, José María Merino, Sergio del Molino, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Juan Manuel de Prada, Soledad Puértolas, Karina Sainz Borgo, Lorenzo Silva and Andrés Trapiello participate in this volume, which compiles narratives that cover the history of Spain. Fictions or historical stories that travel from Ferdinand I of León to the battles of Pavia and Lepanto, the rebellion of the Comuneros, the death of Charles V, the Naples of Charles III, the War of Independence, the liberation of Paris by the Spaniards of "La 9" and labour emigration during Franco's dictatorship.

Julián Martínez-Simancas highlighted the already solid collaboration between Zenda and Iberdrola to promote reading, Spanish literature and its authors, as well as digital culture, with the aim of making it accessible to the whole of society. The Iberdrola representative also said that "this book is a good way of paying tribute to the Spanish Presidency of the European Union: with stories by some of the best Spanish writers about our country's participation in the history of Europe, uniting two pillars for Iberdrola, namely support for culture, one of the cornerstones of our social commitment, and our firm commitment to Europe".

Pérez-Reverte highlighted the trajectory of the literary website: "In these seven years, Zenda has published 25,000 articles with 1,500 contributions in which almost all the important writers have participated". The writer thanked Iberdrola for its long collaboration and said of this volume that "the idea was to write about important moments in the history of Spain".
