i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, has appointed Roberto Rodríguez as the new Head of the company's grid business in Burgos and Soria. Iberdrola España thus strengthens its presence in two key provinces for developing its business strategy, which is based on promoting new renewable projects, developing smarter grids and promoting new electricity consumption models, such as sustainable mobility and self-consumption.
Roberto Rodriguez, Civil Engineer from the University of Burgos, spent most of his professional career at Iberdrola España – with 15 years of experience in the company. At Iberinco, which was once the Group's engineering company, he worked from 2004 to 2009 as a civil engineer on international projects in Riga (Latvia), Sugres (Russia), Kuraymat (Egypt) and Koudiet (Algeria); and between 2014 and 2017 in Coahuila and Escobedo (Mexico). In 2017, he joined the Negocio Liberalizado (Liberalised Business) as head of the civil engineering team for the combined cycle projects of Tuxpan, in Veracruz, and El Carmen, in Escobedo, both in Mexico; and in 2020 he joined i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes as head of the Burgos sector in the Western Region, a position he held until his current appointment.
"Roberto brings to the company an extraordinary knowledge of these provinces and their local institutions as well as his global business vision thanks to his experience in international projects. Furthermore, Roberto shares the company's ambition to be an active part of a necessary energy transition, which will represent opportunities, both from an environmental point of view and for the industrial and business sector of Burgos and Soria. We are confident that he will contribute to the work that the company's entire team has been carrying out in the region for decades", explains Óscar Villanueva, i-DE's Director in Castilla y León.
In addition, the new head of the company's network business in Burgos and Soria combines his activity with a great management of professional social networks and academic activities as a professor in different Masters at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija.
Santiago Saiz also joins the new team as Head of the Burgos sector in the Western Region. Saiz stands out for his people management background, the importance of exercising leadership based on example, professional ethics, active listening and concern for the development of employees, encouraging participation and continuous improvement of the entire team. Always with a focus on meeting the goals established.
The best quality of supply
The Company has improved the quality of service it offers its customers in Castile and León, with the best year-end value in history. In Castilla y León, i-DE manages over 50,000 km of power lines, has 15,697 transformer stations in service and 246 substations.
In recent years, the company has undertaken an ambitious plan to digitise its electricity grids, converting its more than 1.5 million meters in the region and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
Digitalising the electricity distribution network will provide more information to implement additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, in a way that is committed to ambitious and urgent climate action. The deployment of smart grids makes it possible to respond to new models of grid use and offer a better service to citizens.
