The Mayor of Alicante inaugurates the Charging Hub installed by Iberdrola España in the Gran Vía Shopping Centre

  • The facility, which has 32 superfast, fast and semi-fast charging points, has become a benchmark for electric mobility in the city

  • The charging infrastructure, located in the shopping centre's car park, supplies 100% green energy from renewable generation sources

  •

The Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, has inaugurated the Electric Vehicle Charging Hub installed by Iberdrola España and the Gran Vía Shopping Centre. The charging infrastructure has capacity for 32 electric vehicles − making it a benchmark location for electric mobility in the city.

Barcala was accompanied by Javier Montejano, Asset Manager of Gran Vía Alicante; and Enrique Planells, Iberdrola España's Delegate for Large Customers and Public Administrations in Valencia, who explained how the facility works.

The hub has a 150 kilowatt (kW) superfast charging point with two outlets, which is part of the Iberdrola | bp pulse alliance; four 50 kW fast charging points, one 22 kW point with two outlets and 12 points with two outlets of up to 10.6 kW. To carry out the agreement, Iberdrola España has been responsible for providing the equipment, its installation and management, and Gran Vía Alicante has granted access to the land of the car park where the chargers are located.

It is worth highlighting that users of these facilities charge their electric cars’ battery with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a Guarantee of Origin certificate (GoO). Furthermore, the charging points are included in the Iberdrola España Public Charging App − where you can geolocate chargers, check their operation in real time and book and pay from your mobile phone.

Leader in mobility

Iberdrola España has more than 7,000 public charging points with 100% Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificate (GdOs), and its electric mobility network is the most extensive in Spain. In addition to this infrastructure, which is already operational, there are nearly 2,000 more points under construction and over 3,000 more on standby due to administrative procedures, which will be available in the coming months.

These figures show the Company's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility as a way to combat climate change and achieve more sustainable spaces. 2,000 out of the 7,000 points that the infrastructure has are fast, super-fast and ultra-fast charging points. The points of over 50 kW are part of the network operated by the Iberdrola | bp pulse alliance.

Iberdrola España's development of electric mobility also extends to the private sector in companies and residential customers − reaching more than 50,000 charging points with the public grid.

Iberdrola España's charging infrastructure is developed in the best locations and offers all charging speeds, allowing users to have the type of point that best suits their needs at all times. From charging in a longer parking space to ultra-fast charging, between 5 and 10 minutes.

The mobility plan, launched by the Company in 2016, was pioneer in its implementation. Today, we plan to install more than 100,000 charging points by 2025, including public and residential charging points, as well as in companies and car parks.

To this end, its public infrastructure design is being developed on highways and corridors as well as in cities and small towns − with the aim of having at least one fast charging station every 50 km or less.
