Iberdrola España has developed several solar communities in Badajoz that will allow a total of 1,590 families to benefit from a reduction in their electricity bills and access to renewable self-consumption− without any installation or investment in the home
Specifically, the installations in Badajoz have 1,966 photovoltaic panels, with a total installed power of just over 900 kWp located on the roofs of different businesses in the city, ranging from shops and warehouses to automotive garages or beauty salons.
Any household in Badajoz can join these solar communities, as long as they are located less than two kilometres from the point where the panels are located and are Iberdrola España customers. In addition, thanks to these solar communities, the emission of over 260 tonnes of CO2 per year will be avoided − which is equivalent to planting 10,450 trees.
New form of self-consumption
Iberdrola España's solar communities are based on collective self-consumption consisting of two main actors. On the one hand, there is the owner of the rooftop, who offers his unused space to place solar panels and generate 100% renewable energy to help him save on his electricity bill. And on the other hand, there are the neighbours, who must be within a radius of up to 2 km from that rooftop, who will be able to self-consume the surplus generated in those businesses.
In the case of Badajoz there are ten sites belonging to different companies in the city that have provided their roofs, installing a total power of 901.32 kWp, of which 105 kWp will be for self-consumption by the businesses themselves. The surplus, 796 kWp, can be used by the citizens of Badajoz who join this form of self-consumption of clean, local energy, without any investment, installation or permanence, and from which almost 1,600 families will be able to benefit.
Users and people interested in joining the Badajoz solar community can receive all the necessary information at the information desk in Plaza de España nº9 (Alcántara de Gas), via the Iberdrola España Solar Communities website or by calling the free telephone number +34 900 92 33 33. Furthermore, they will also be able to calculate the economic and environmental savings on an individual basis by joining the solar community.
15,000 families in Extremadura can access self-consumption thanks to Iberdrola España
In Extremadura, 15,000 families can access self-consumption thanks to the solar communities installed by Iberdrola España in different parts of the region − without any installation or investment in the home. This represents a significant saving on the electricity bill.
In the province of Badajoz, the main towns with the highest number of solar communities are, in addition to the capital of Badajoz, Don Benito, Almendralejo, Villanueva de la Serena and Mérida.
On the other hand, in the province of Cáceres, this system of local and renewable energy self-consumption exists in municipalities such as Miajadas, Navalmoral, Plasencia and Coria, where it supplies more than 200 families. It also exists in the city of Cáceres − which is unique in that it was the first "solar city" in the country to offer all its inhabitants the possibility of accessing energy self-consumption.
