Iberdrola España and the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of the Region of Murcia are driving forward the electrification of heavy goods transport
- The COIIRM and Iberdrola España brought together representatives from the government and the energy, automotive and logistics sectors in Murcia for the conference "Hacia un Transporte Competitivo y Descarbonizado: La Transformación de la Movilidad Industrial"

The Official Association of Industrial Engineers of the Region of Murcia (COIIRM) and Iberdrola España brought together around a hundred professionals to discuss how to move towards a more competitive and decarbonised heavy goods transport sector, and addressed the technological, regulatory and economic challenges of electrification.
The conference, held at CaixaBank Business One, addressed one of the major challenges of the energy transition, with direct implications for industry, logistics and economic development. The aim was to analyse the current state of decarbonisation in heavy goods transport and the prospects for implementing more efficient and sustainable solutions.
The Dean of the COIIRM, Marcos Mateos, and Iberdrola España's Institutional Representative for the Region of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cerdán, took part in the institutional welcome, alongside Antonio Francisco García Rodríguez, Director of Institutions for Murcia at CaixaBank. The opening address was delivered by José Antonio Verdú Yllán, Director-General for Mobility and Transport.
Marcos Mateos emphasised that the Region of Murcia, given the significant role played by industry and freight transport in its economy, "has much to contribute to this debate. The electrification of heavy goods transport requires engineering, collaboration between businesses and the public sector and solutions that are also viable from an operational and economic perspective".
The programme included a discussion on the challenge of decarbonising heavy goods transport between Marcos Mateos and Arturo Pérez de Lucía, Director General of AEDIVE, as well as a presentation by David Pampano, Head of Heavy Goods Transport Products at Iberdrola Spain, on solutions for electrifying this sector.
Competitiveness and sustainability
Miguel Ángel Cerdán pointed out that "the electrification of heavy goods transport requires progress on solutions tailored to companies' real needs, from charging infrastructure to operational planning. Events such as this one enable the sharing of experiences and the bridging of differences to accelerate a competitive and sustainable transformation".
The event continued with a round-table discussion on sustainability and decarbonisation in practice, moderated by Jorge Muñoz, Head of Smart Mobility at Iberdrola Spain. Participants included Juan Jesús Sánchez, Managing Director of Disfrimur; Elías Amor, Head of the Sustainability Department at CONSUM; Miquel Gutiérrez, Sales Manager at Irizar ie truck; Javier Rodríguez, Global EV Sales Director at Power Electronics; and Rafael Aguilera, Managing Director of UNO Logística.
The event concluded with a presentation by Juan Antonio Mas Ferrer, Deputy Director-General for Industrial, Energy and Mining Management and Planning, followed by a discussion session amongst the attendees.
Through this initiative, the COIIRM and Iberdrola España have fostered a forum for dialogue between the engineering sector, businesses and the public administration to address the opportunities and challenges posed by the transformation of heavy goods transport and its adaptation to a more sustainable energy model.
