With this stop the exhibition brings its tour of the region to a close, having previously visited Cehegín, Murcia, Lorca and San Javier.

Until 6 September the Plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas in Mazarrón will be transformed into a vast open-air museum thanks to the arrival of "El Prado en las Calles", the travelling exhibition organised by the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Iberdrola España Foundation, in collaboration with the Autonomous Region of Murcia and Mazarrón Town Council.

With this stop the exhibition brings its tour of the Murcia region to a close, having previously visited the towns of Cehegín, Murcia, Lorca and San Javier, bringing art and cultural heritage to thousands of people through an accessible, free initiative open to all.

The event was attended by Ginés Campillo, Mayor of Mazarrón; Carmen María Conesa, Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sport for the Region of Murcia; Fernando Pérez, management officer for general education coordination at the Prado Museum; Patricio Sánchez López, Director-General for Heritage at the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sport of the Region of Murcia; Ramón Castresana, Director of the Iberdrola España Foundation; and Miguel Ángel Cerdán, the company's regional representative.

The exhibition brings together 50 large-format photographic reproductions of some of the most iconic works from the Prado Museum's collection and offers a journey through the major European artistic schools, guided by great masters such as Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, Rembrandt, Dürer, Bosch, Caravaggio, Titian and Sorolla amongst others.

Each work is accompanied by simple explanatory texts and information panels that help visitors understand who painted the picture, what story it tells and why it is important. In this way the exhibition also becomes an educational experience for people of all ages. Furthermore to enrich the experience each bilingual information panel contains QR codes providing access to additional content on the Prado Museum's various collections.

Since its launch, "El Prado en las Calles" has established itself as one of the most successful cultural outreach initiatives by the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Iberdrola España Foundation, touring numerous Spanish towns and cities with the aim of democratising access to culture and bringing universal art to new audiences. In the Murcia region the project has transformed squares, promenades and urban spaces into veritable open-air galleries, encouraging local residents and visitors to engage with some of the most iconic works in the history of painting.
