Solar plants in Valencia

Valencia is one of the sunniest cities in Europe. In this province, Iberdrola España is building two solar plants with an installed capacity of 366 MW. These plants will generate more than 650,000 MWh of clean energy per year and will be able to supply approximately 200,000 homes. In addition, this renewable generation will prevent the emission of 52,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, benefiting the environment.

Cofrentes solar plant

Located in the municipalities of Ayora and Zarra, inland in the province of Valencia, the Cofrentes I solar plant will have close to 400,000 solar panels, generating 332,000 MWh per year, enough to supply more than 100,000 homes. It currently has an installed capacity of 75.30 MW.

Ayora solar plant

The Ayora 1 photovoltaic plant, located in the Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes region, currently has an installed capacity of 109.43 MW. The plant will have approximately 400,000 solar panels and will generate around 319,000 MWh per year, enough to supply around 100,000 homes.

This Iberdrola España initiative will deliver significant benefits for the development of clean energy and the progress of the region. In this context, we are becoming a strategic partner in achieving the target of 7,000 MW of photovoltaic capacity by 2030.

Economic and employment impact in the Valencia region

The total investment in these projects amounts to €252 million, providing a significant boost to the local economy. The installation of these plants will benefit landowners as well as the municipalities hosting the projects.

During peak construction periods, up to 1,300 jobs are expected to be created, a large proportion of which will be filled by local workers.

In addition, Iberdrola España is working with local councils to organise training programmes, enabling unemployed residents to take part in the construction and operation of the plants. These facilities are also expected to create permanent jobs for long-term management and maintenance, supporting employment in the region.

The commissioning of the new photovoltaic plants in the Valencia region is scheduled for late 2026. However, they are already having a positive impact, promoting employment, boosting the economy and supporting the development of the region.

In addition to these facilities, Iberdrola España is developing other projects in the province of Alicante, such as the Alhorines Villena, Biar and Alcoi photovoltaic plants. These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to the region’s progress, continuing to position the company as a benchmark in solar energy in Spain and in the Valencia region.
