Iberdrola España has reached 2,600 operational fast and ultra-fast charging points in Spain through its own network and that of Iberdrola | bp pulse, after putting more than 400 into operation in the first half of the year. This brings the total to over 9,600 points, strengthening its position as the largest public charging network in the country. All charging points supply 100% green energy from renewable sources with guarantees of origin (GdOs), which, in addition to advancing electrification as the most efficient mobility energy model, promotes the transition towards a system independent of fossil fuels.

The extensive public fast and ultra-fast charging network of Iberdrola makes it easy and cost-efficient to travel across the country by electric car on all types of routes, including primary, secondary and local roads, with stops that can recharge up to 80% of the battery in less than fifteen minutes, provided the vehicle model allows it.

Since its launch in 2016, the objective of Iberdrola España’s pioneering mobility plan has been to facilitate charging across all areas of mobility: public, residential, business and car parks, both in large cities and in small towns, enabling electric vehicle users to travel throughout the country using only the company’s network with full safety and no difficulty.

With the same purpose, Iberdrola and bp pulse, the leading company in ultra-fast charging at service stations in Spain, joined forces in December 2023 to promote high-power charging by creating Iberdrola | bp pulse. This strategic alliance between the two companies is currently the leader in ultra-fast public charging infrastructure in Spain and Portugal, with more than 1,400 operational points.

To improve accessibility to the infrastructure, Iberdrola also offers its mobility app, the most highly rated in the sector, which allows users to locate nearby charging points, check their status in real time, pay with a bank card, a charging card (RFID) or any card registered in the app, view consumption history or establish the optimal route of stops for their journeys.

In addition, the app allows users to reserve charging points and receive notifications when charging is completed. Also, as a new feature, the company has launched a user community providing access to the latest news and updates from the sector, as well as useful information for electric vehicle drivers.

Electric mobility in Spain

Iberdrola España is committed to electric mobility as a key element in the fight against climate change and in the transition towards a zero-emissions energy model that enables cleaner air in cities.

The company supports various initiatives to drive the energy transition, a process that will transform the way we generate and consume energy and help decarbonise the economy.

In this journey, one of the most important areas of action is the transport sector, which is the main consumer of energy and the largest emitter of greenhouse gases worldwide. In fact, the International Energy Agency estimates that transport generates more than one third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Faced with this reality, Iberdrola España has become a key player in the country’s electric mobility sector, identifying opportunities to create an industrial, commercial and innovation ecosystem. To this end, it also provides countless customised options for each client to help them achieve their decarbonisation and electrification goals.

In total, Iberdrola España has signed more than 100 agreements for infrastructure deployment with administrations, institutions, companies, service stations, dealerships and vehicle manufacturers. In addition, it offers solutions ranging from the supply of 100% green energy through PPAs to services such as self-consumption or heat pumps, as well as the electrification of industrial processes.
