The Fundación Iberdrola España, Bilbao City Council and Dones Mentores-Emakume Mentoreak are launching a social mentoring network for women

The project is aimed at women in Bilbao who have experienced or are experiencing gender-based violence and involves the creation, training and facilitation of a local network of volunteer mentors, with the aim of supporting the participants' recovery, resilience, autonomy, healing and social reintegration whilst also strengthening support networks amongst women.
This tripartite agreement, with a budget of €25,000, highlights the value of collaboration between public authorities, the private sector and social organisations as a driving force for promoting initiatives with a high social impact that generate opportunities, strengthen social cohesion and contribute to improving the wellbeing and inclusion of people in vulnerable situations.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto; the President of the Iberdrola España Foundation, Jaime Alfonsín; the Councillor for Equality and Festivals, Itziar Urtasun; the Director of the Iberdrola España Foundation, Ramón Castresana; and the Director of the Association, Lores López, amongst others.

The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the Executive Chairman of the Iberdrola España Foundation, Jaime Alfonsín, held an official meeting today to mark the launch of the collaboration agreement signed between Bilbao City Council, the Iberdrola España Foundation and the Dones Mentores-Emakume Mentoreak Association for the development of a gender-sensitive social mentoring project in the city.

The project has total funding of €25,000, of which €15,000 are provided by the Iberdrola España Foundation and €10,000 by Bilbao City Council. The funds will enable the delivery of training, monitoring and support initiatives, as well as the creation and promotion of a local network of mentors to support other women in their processes of recovery, personal empowerment and autonomy, fostering the development of bonds of trust and mutual support with the aim of contributing to their well-being and social participation.

This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of Bilbao City Council, the Iberdrola España Foundation and Dones Mentores-Emakume Mentoreak to equal opportunities, social inclusion and the building of a fairer and more cohesive society. It also highlights the value of cooperation between public authorities, social organisations and the private sector in driving forward initiatives that have a positive impact on people's lives.

In the mayor's words, "women in Bilbao who have suffered or are suffering gender-based violence need access to resources, support networks, trust and opportunities to rebuild their lives. This initiative strengthens regional networks amongst women and helps ensure that those going through these situations have role models, support and tools to move forward with greater autonomy.
We will continue to prioritise partnerships such as this, which enable us to keep building a Bilbao that is more equal, cohesive and free from violence against women".

According to Jaime Alfonsín, "at the Iberdrola España Foundation we are convinced that collaboration between public authorities, social organisations and the private sector is key to building a more inclusive, cohesive and equal society. He also highlighted the Iberdrola Group's 125th anniversary celebrations, organised under the slogan "125 light years", an initiative encompassing a wide-ranging programme of cultural, technological and social activities through which the company is commemorating its history and commitment to society.
